I'm learnign how to play and a friend said me that the main purpose is controlling where the cue baill will go, so you can place it whre you need to go on.

And he said me that:

the height in which you hit the cue ball determines the way and the effect will be applied after take the rail.

P.E: hitting in the center will be 90º, more height will go fordward, and less height will go back.

My question is: does exist a formula or how do you learn how to determine the cue ball?

Or my question must be: what do you learn to play billiards correctly and being a professional?

Sorry for my bad english, i'm from argentina..

Regards...

Your friend is right to a degree. The answer to your question about a formula is practice, practice and more practice. I wish you good luck.

Su ingles es mejor que mi espanol! espanol.

Quick answer: no. No form as exist that will allow one to play well. That said, a scientific study of the game is a fine place to have been.

There are too many variables to get exact results on pool. You just have to keep doing it, until it makes sense.

When you play you have to pay attention..is not enough practice more..there must be a theory..i played for 4 years..

When hitting the cue ball anyplace other than the center you change the behavior of the cue ball. Speed and quality of your stroke has a lot to do with your results.

We can only control three things:

1. Angle
2. Speed
3. Spin

The cue stick comes before the cue ball. CONTROL!

Dr. Dave, Billiard University, University of Colorado. This website will give you much to think about.

This entire site touches on everything, use the search function. There are always little things that make you go AHA! All of these little things are related, knowing them will improve the quality of your play. The equipment can be a huge factor for example with tip type, shaft size, shaft taper (much more important than I thought it was). But yea many hours of table work will help to "feel" out different effects and positions

Just keep playing and experiment with putting the cueball and object ball in the same spot
with angle and make the pocket by hitting the cueball in many different spots.

Top, bottom, left and right english, plus of course center ball as well.

This will come to you as you experiment

I will give you the same advice I give every single person new to the game-

Pick up a copy of Byrne's Standard Guide to Pool and Billiards. And read it cover to cover.

Three times.

One cannot even begin to learn the game until they have a basic understanding of the physics, and can understand what is happening when they watch a shot by a professional on YouTube.

I have no idea if the book has been translated into Spanish, but I assume it has.

No, if it was still 1970 or before you would pretty much be relying on better players or thousands of hours spent on the table , today there is a treasure trove of information out there that just was not available before.
Dr.Daves dvds are as in depth as any study I have ever seen , Tor Lowry on you tube has great info.
Joe Tuckers videos are very good.
I would watch Tor Lowry and Dr Daves stuff on you tube for free, and choose the style of learning that fits you best , then get their dvds as soon as you can and start practicing them.
There are many people in the pool room who think they can teach but will actually make it more difficult.
Find someone who learned this way to teach you , not someone who plays well by "feel"
You can't teach "feel" .
