What do you do here?

This shot came up in a 10-ball match b/w Johnny Archer and Cary Dunn at the SBE event. Anyone is a huge underdog from this spot, obviously, but I was curious to see what kind of options the knowledgeable and intelligent AZ crew could come up with.

I got to try

I have to try and fire the 8 into the long rail and into the 10. I think it maybe your only option

EDIT: Scratch all that. For whatever reason my mind immediately thought 8-ball. Why I'm so slow in picking up that this was a 10-ball situtaion I have no idea.

Aaron, the last thing I would do is kick for the 9 since I don't want to take ANY risk of loosening up the 4/5 cluster.

I don't see any good options for intentionally tieing up his balls.

The 9 ball looks low for him to shoot the 7 off it into the side & use the 9 to break up the 4/5.

If comfortable with the speed of the table & the rails, I would slow kick at the 10 hoping for a good 1/2 ball hit like this:

Is it high-percentage? No. Is it the best I see? Yes.

Is this first shot after the break?
-If so, I push to bottom R of your picture, leave CB on the rag.
-If not, Intentional foul would be first choice after a jump. I do like the idea of fouling by shooting something into the 10 (preferred over into the 1).

Let me guess who broke 'em. What was Johnny's shot?

I would hit the eight ball on the left side and try to leave the cue ball between the middle diamond and the corner pocket frozen to the rail to eliminate any change of a billiard onto the 10.

This is assuming that a push out is allowed.

Assuming the game is 8 ball, yeah. This seems like the only real alternative. I also like the idea of trying to tie up the 8 and the 10 but thats not an easy shot either.

It just depends what you're more comfortable with.

Of course, if this is 10 ball, I'd adjust the angle for the kick and try to go 2 rails into the 1.

Sorry, I should have given a bit more info. This situation was a couple of shots into the game, so a push was not available. Yes, you'd be correct on your guess of who broke the balls. :)

I should have posted this first. This is the match, and the rack we're discussing begins at 50:45.

OK. Since no push allowed. I would still take an intentional foul hitting the eight and trying to move the 10 or block the 10 from going or something along those lines. I would just hope that those two balls stop my opponent from running out.

The game is 10-ball. Sorry, I made way too many assumptions in my first post.

I agree, fire the 8 into the ten ball, and see if he is good enough to break the 4/5 cluster up and run out. I like my chances doing this.
