What do you think about this pocket?

Can this pocket be a pocket that pros play and consistently run out?

I am having a very hard time with this table. Why is that?

What Brunswick table is that? My observations from just a quick glance is that the pockets are very wide but the shelf is very deep. The pic almost looks 'photo shopped'. The reason you may be having problems is the shelf. Draw a line from mid facing to mid facing & I think you'll get the picture.

Regards,

Wow.

Lookit that bucket ! It has no throat. The rails are tight as well.
Needa LOTTA TIME playing on that table to get it right. ie: felt, table speed, travel speed to pocket. Perfect position, precise banks, etc.

With holes THAT small; you gotta letum just drop in .......:sorry:

Willie Mosconi said it best when asked how he played: "There's two ways,...... soft,....... and softer."

a 2nd look

on second glance, the centers do seem off, but it could be the camera angle too, not sure.

lol floating 9 ball LOL ! I Been Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadd !

It looks to me that this pocket doesn't have the correct angle to the facing. If you shoot a ball down the rail it would send it back out in the direction it entered. The facing needs to be angled to direct the object ball into the pocket.

Best,
Mike

there's something very odd about that pic.

-9 ball looks photo shopped smaller
-shelf looks extremely deep but pocket appears bucket-like

if you freeze the 9 ball up against the left facing and then place the cue ball further back and freeze it along the same rail, it seems entirely possible that you could be snookered by nothing but rail.

It is not Photoshop. I don't have time to deceive people or anything stupid like that. I believe it is a century table by Brunswick. I got it cheap on Craigslist but I am paying for it with frustration.
I just wanted an opinion. That's all. It is a 9 ft table with ball return. I think the guy who changed the rails for me did a horrible job. I wish someone who understands this type of work could fix this for me for a fair price.

If it's not photo shopped, & you are on the up & up then I wood post this in the table mechanic section. You might be able to get some custom made shimes to correct the problem. the shelf still looks deep to me. Check to see if the opposite long rail has a similiar shelf.

Best Wishes & Good Luck,

What model Brunswick is that?

Can you post a picture of the whole table?

I play regularly on a table with a shelf that deep, but with 4.5" pockets. It's definitely a tough table where stroke efficiency is extremely important where you're shooting non-full pocket shots (rail/near rail).

Keep plugging away. With that shelf that table plays far tighter than the pockets represent.

That's a better pic. I think your problem is the angle cut on the rails. If they were cut more straight out from the pocket they would help to direct balsl more toward that deep shelf. As I said earlier, I would post this on the table mechanics forum. You might be able to get custom shims to straighten out the facings.

Good Luck,

Thank you. I will post them and see what they say. Especially when the balls are close to the rail, making the balls is almost impossible.

If I hit them with speed, then the ball exactly hits where I aim which is the inside of the facing and hits the other facing and goes away from the pocket.

If I hit them slower, again, the ball hits where I aim, inside of the facing and hits the other facing slowly and stays in the pocket.

Thats got to be the deepest shelf ever on a Brunswick. Could you measure the distance from a imaginary line draw between the points of the pocket to the point that the slate starts to round over. That shelf has to be 2 1/4" deep. For a reference, my Brunswick Centennial has a 7/8" shelf. Mark Gregory reduced my pockets to 4 1/8" opening to toughen up the pockets a tad.

Does anyone have a shelf measurement for a Diamond or a Olhausen for reference? They are the same.

By the way, I'm sorry for the photo shop accusation. That shelf looked to deep and the ball looks like it's floating.
