Type of wood? why?
Half/full splice? why?
One piece cue butt? why?
Wood to wood? why?
Steel joint? why?
Pin screw? why?

this is not the place to ask question like why? Most people don't have the slightest idea why any of this stuff works.

The best you can expect is I like it because it played good.

not much

something straight, the right weight, good tip, and doesn't deflect too much.

Train,

Assuming that you are referring to a 2-piece cue, and keeping in mind that the question posed in the title of this thread relies purely upon subjectivity, I would have to say that the joint type/material has more to do with what makes a cue play a certain way (whether it's good or bad is solely dependent upon the opinion of any given user of such cue). It seems like I've hit with cues of similar construction/shaft types and the joint type/material being the only variable made the feel/feedback of the cues totally different.

Once again, it's all subjective.

Must be straight, have a tip-and most important:
YOU have to like it-that s it.

You can take all the right parts and still come up with a bad cue. All the parts work as a whole. What makes a good playing cue is the one that makes you play comfortably.

You forgot the tip, the ferrule, the balance, and most importantly the cuemaker and the cuemaker's integrity.
