What do you think of this chuck?

Being a D1-4 and a tru-set I'm sure it could be made to run accurately if you get some good collets. 5C collets are just to small for most operations needed for cue building. Although the 5c collets go to 1.125 inch, the through hole is a little smaller than an inch. It would be nice to get a square collet so as to easily turn square ivory pieces into round ivory ferrules.

Do either of you have concerns of using steel collets on wood?

The sq.collet is a neat idea and should work well, just a little expensive of a way to go about it.

It's a nice chuck and probably worth the money, if it had a wider range of use it might be worth a look-see.

joey i have a lathe set up with a simlar chuck it works great and this price is great also i paid over 2000k for mine we just bought new jet lathe and we use that on there ...lee

What is the biggest diameter that will pass through the collet, 1"? How many full size lathes do you have and can you dedicate one to just collets?

Personally I use my Set Tru 6 jaw chuck and delrin collars at least 98% of the time. A couple times a year I will break out my Royal collet closer and collets and do a bunch of the small stuff but I could do it in my regular chuck as well. The reverse cannot be said.

It looks like a reasonable import chuck, and I've heard nice things about LatheMaster, but my lathe doesn't take a D1-4 so it's no good ;)

You can get nylon 5C collets, at least emergency collets anyway.
