Cork wrap

I have met a few who like them, very few. I have always thought that they make a cue look real cheap. IMHO
 
Here's one from Paul Drexler. It's cork-rubber, one of the nicest feeling wraps there is, IMO. Haven't seen many all cork wraps since the 80's when I used to see several TAD's with that wrap. Come to think of it Swanee had cork on his Martin style TAD methinks.

I saw one of cueaddicts cues at the DCC with a cork wrap. It looked real nice.
 
does cork last like a normal wrap? like it wont come apart into pieces right?

i guess what i am trying to say.. how durable is it? especially as an everyday player..

cork is one of the best feeling wraps out there.

cork is also the fastest to be replaced.

i heard PFD is the best.

Jack I love it, and it is also is very easy to repair when nicked. I am currently in the process of using Cork wraps on some of my conversion cues.

cork wrap

they may feel nice but personally i think the belong on fishing rods and not cues.

i take leather, linen or no wrap before cork.

just my 2 cents.

I had a cork wrap on a Woodworth player's cue. The reason that they use a cork handle on fishing poles is that it's the best (natural) material to use for grip in a wet environment. Since that's exactly what a cue wrap is trying to accomplish, it just seems that cork is a natural. As for durability, I've seen quite a few old Brunswick cues from the turn of the century that still have pretty intact cork wraps. Wraps don't get a better feeling than with cork. Aesthetics are the only concern I can see, and on my player cue, it looked great...

I definitely...

I like the way it looks for a collectible cue; but I would have leather installed first for a player.
 
The nuts

Cork is the best feeling wrap for those marathon matches in my opinion. The longer you play the better it gets. Problem is, it looks really nasty really quick, but durability and playability is as good if not better than anything else.
 
love 'em !!

I personally love both the look and feel of a cork wrap. Got to love them in the late 80's when McDermott was still doing them Bad thing is nowadays, nobody hardly seems to specialize in them (hmmmm....ideas).

IMO, how long a cork wrap will last is dependant on a few things: 1. how well they were installed, 2. how hard the player is on their cue, and 3. how much the player's grip hand sweats. These are the very things though that also determine how well any kind of wrap lasts.
 
I have a PFD with a cork wrap and LOVE it. IT has a great feel and absorbs the sweat from my hands quite nicely.
IMHO, the only down side is that they are not the prettiest look, depending on the woods in your cue. If it came in colors, that would be the bomb. Paul Drexler does a fantastic cork wrap as others mentioned. My favorite feeling wrap of them all..
 
Believe it or not, the cork does come in several colors! Actually, the cork doesn't, but the rubber binder that holds the cork together can be black, green, reddish orange, etc. If your cuemaker only has one type, you can have them talk to a local company that does gasketing products...
 
Thanks everyone. I have a cue that I am wrapping in cork, but since I have not seen too many lately (you know sitting in the middle of a hay field sort of limits the exposure! lol), I wanted to know if anyone else appreciated the cork wrap. There were a lot of them around 20-30 years ago. Thanks again for the feedback.

It wouldn't look bad but I think it might take away from that real look you want to achieve that is going on in the buttsleeve and forearm - especially since it is a black and white cue. It is definately a one of a kind custom - and if you don't mind I think we will put pictures of it on the website -- SOLD of course.
