What does the "orange crush" mean in handicapping?

Spend? It turned out I was just holding it for somebody else. I get the feeling that they're just holding it for me, too.

What can I say.. I was a B and used it like a salesman.. I'll take the 1-out if he's willing to give it! I really thought he was a master, since he came off as thinking I was easy pickings, which is why I asked for such a ridiculous spot. My break alone was enough to beat him with that spot. As far as I remember, I just played the one set with him.

I don't know about playing even.. you guys could probably spot me.. say.. the 7 or 8. ;)
 
Not the "Orange Crush", but back in 1970 during my freshman year in college we played 9-ball with two money balls, the 5 and the 9. The 5 paid half what the 9 did, usually 50 cents on the 5 and a buck on the 9 (hey, we were broke college kids).

Anyone ever play that way?
 
The 5 and out? Really? You guys must be preying on the handicaped (no pun intended). You must be so proud. :P

All the time played this. Same bet too! Back in mid eighties when I was in school.
 
Orange crush is the 5 and the break, I have never heard that being any other way. 5 and out around here would be called the last 5 which would be make the 5,6,7,8 or 9 ball for the win...

IMO if a guy can give you the break and the last 5. You have no shot at winning why bother there is gambling and then there is just stupid

Getting the last 5 means no wild balls other than the 9. The 5 out means all are wild.

Big difference in the 5 ball and the 8 when giving or getting weight.

Of course there could be primitive backwater areas of the country that have twisted around the words but I have never heard the expression used the other way.

The last opinion is Bob Jewett's...a good source indeed.
 
The only times I seen guys give 5 out and snaps, the balls didn't count on the break and would spot back up. This would give the better player an advantage by having balls spotted back up allowing him to duck on the lesser player.

That would be the call 5 through 8.

"5-out" is not the same as "last 5".

5-out means you win if you make the 5-6-7-8-9 at any time (so long as "call shot" is not stipulated on the money balls).

Last 5 means you do not have to shoot the last 5 balls on the table. That could be the 5-6-7-8-9, but it could just as easily be ANY 5 balls...like 3-4-6-8-9.

I find it amazing that gambling terminology has some regional aspect...which leads to odd threads like this one.

Speaking of regional terminology...anyone wanna talk 8-ball rules?!?!? :)
