What games or pro sports pay less a year than pool for their top 50 players? Johnnyt
 
yea the pay off is but the endorsments are incredable weaties boxs ..... visa.... mickey dees..... just to name a few those athleates get millions of dollars from that
 
Very few sports are pay for performance like pool. In most sports 99% of the atheletes are overpaid, but in pay for performance sports like golf and pool, the atheletes earn what they deserve.

I have heard that the Pro Tiddlywinks Tour is almost as bad as pool but not quite, the promoters usually pay the players

Prize money in golf MAY be deserved, but Michelle Wie signing with NIKE, and others for endorsements (multi - multi - millions) based on "potential".....well, that's where things get a little FuZzY. That is a TOTAL gamble....for every Jordan and Tiger there's 100 guys and gals that fall off the face of the earth. The day American Express, Adidas, Cadillac, etc. takes a flyer on an 18 year old pool player......lol, won't happen.

But, as for the prize money, in say professional bowling, tennis, golf (individual sports), it is what it is (what the market will bear, as long as the endorsers think they are making money on their "investments" in said sports) :grin:
 
BTW, I don't think ANY professional athlete is OVERPAID. If a team pays a pitcher $20 MIL a year, when they could have gotten 3 younger, less proven or experienced (whatever) pitchers for that, then there must be a reason they were willing to pay it. Same goes for shooting guards, quarterbacks, etc. etc. etc. Are their salaries ridiculous by the standards of ordinary folks' pay? SURE, but if we could do what they do, they wouldn't be paid that much, and we wouldn't pay to see them do it :o Anyone think the Yankees organization with their CRAZY salaries LOSES money?? Not likely, so the only way they are overpaid is if the organization thinks they are (and moves on to players who WILL perform the way they want).

I am not sure there are many pro sports that require so much outlay from competitors for so little gain. I know in 2008 Phil Taylor (Darts) earned more than $900,000 from winnings alone!
 
I just think it's sick that the leading money winner this year hasn't even won $100,000 yet, and it's already November. For all the practice, skill, travel, pressure at the top in billiards and a 20th ranked pro could make as much driving a truck. And we wonder why no new blood gets into pool. It's because they did the math. Johnnyt

I think professional disc golfers are on the list. Those dudes can rattle chains from 300 yards, but probably need to ride a bike to the tourny.
 
Car audio competitions

I never really got into filling my vehicle up with all the latest speaker systems so I could make myself deaf lol

When I was in in college I had a part time job as a painter.

My boss was Richie Arceneaux....great painter, did very nice faux bois work. Guy was from Carencro, used to box 155lb class. Won the golden gloves at least once an i believe he actually won it twice. Was undefeated as an amateur and was gonna turn pro, got jumped by 4 guys outside the mall while he was with his lady and he put one of the men in a coma. Went to prison for 4 years over it and he never fought again.

Really cool dude. Very driven, he had his business rocking and rolling and he got into street audio competitions. Back in i believe 03 I went with him to the summer streets competition in shreveport. He came in with a late 80's rx7 and was competeing in the pro stock.

If i remember correctly he was pushing 10 X 8" pioneer carbon comp pros and 2 2000W cheater Cadence amps, along with a custom box that they had modified like 30 times to get the mix they wanted. I believe the stereo was alpine but cant really remember.

He had THOUSANDS.....tens of thousands.....probably I'd say 25k invested in the whole project at the moment.

They were taking the readings off the floor not the port and he hit 177.7 decibels.....NEW WORLD RECORD!!!!!!!!!!!


I had never been to nothing like that since I wasn't into it but MAN THAT WAS COOL!

Explained to me how the hatchbacks were a better platform b/c they had natural sound compression qualities (kinda like ya find a cue :)

He get a BIG trophy........and thats it...........................


those guys spend a hell of alot of freaking money for NOTHING but a trophy

some of them eventually get sponsored but its really rare




Also its been a while but last time i checked the SCRABBLE world championships pays 150K$ its't that a bummer :(

This is an interesting question. From this list :

I'd guess Inline Hockey, Field Hockey, Paintball, and Fastball (listed as Softball, Fast Pitch). These are just guesses, I have not researched the pay scales.

I think NONE of the lists I posted are anywhere near complete btw. I'd also guess that there are lots of sports/games where the folks making the most for playing are not in the stratosphere of our well known sports gazzilionaires like Tiger, Floyd, Kimi, etc.
