What happened to the Jeff Olney Thread?

There was a highly visited Jeff Olney cue thread a short while ago but I can't find it. Anyone know what happened?

Some members got some ugly interaction going on, and the Olney thread was pulled.
I'd understood the admin was considering putting it back in place - I even sent a pm to Mike asking where the issue stood. I've gotten no response after quite some time.
Not too happy about that either.

It was too bad, that was a great thread. Hopefully the mods can give that thread a "haircut" and put it back.

I did talk to Jeff today. He's not posted in a while because he computer died and he's been unable to post or reply to email messages. He's got a new one now. Jeff is the best!

They pulled the thread instead of cleaning out the trash? Normally, the offending posts are cut away & the good of the thread can live on...and that thread had a mountain of good in it. Sad to see it get lost if the only issue was a few bad posts.

As I understand it they accidentally did a hard
delete on the thread and can't retrieve it.

BUMMER!!! Everyone can put their pictures in this new thread and we can
start from scratch.

This sounds more accurate, I don't recall that thread getting out of hand
to the point where it warranted removal. My theory was that it was such
a huge thread and popular that it was taxing the server to keep it alive,
and slowing down the rest of the system, so they removed it. Who knows.
It will be missed!

I was wondering what happened to it too.

All the wonderful drool-worthy pictures of Jeff's cues are now gone! :frown:

Can't imagine how long it'll take Jeff if he were to upload them photos again....

Actually it's more rare here to see a thread pruned. Most of the time it's either closed with no pruning leaving the offending posts intact and available for anyone to read OR it it moved to an area inaccessible to the membership.

Many otherwise great threads have been "lost" because of this. It's just the way it goes sometimes. They are all still there we just can't see them.

This is one thing I like about FB, the ability to edit threads I start. So if someone comes in and starts brawling I simply cut them off at the knees and delete their posts.

I wish that there was more pruning of threads here to cut out the trolls but it's unlikely to change with all that Mike and Jerry otherwise have on their plate. It's much faster to close or move a thread than to go through and clean it up.

The sad part is that some of these threads do represent a lot of work and thought put in by a lot of really good people. It only takes one troll to screw them up and they do. I wish that Mike would adopt a zero tolerance policy for knocking for a month. After that the super trolls who skirt the edge of the rules would be gone or effectively cut off and the site would be much nicer overall IMO.

And new trolls would be instabanned - no warning.

Make that happen and watch how good it gets!
