What is he 16 now?

Chia-Chang Wu in the final 4 of the WPC, and he is just a kid. This is the kind of story you hear about with people like Mosconi and his early inroads into the world class level as a young kid, same as Hoppe beating world champs as a young kid. We could be watching history and if he can win it now how dominant could he be in the future? This is what I meant by the USA being steps behind, while there are some great young players out there I dont think there are any 16 year olds that could dream of doing what Wu is ATM.

New fast food restaurant in Taiwan called:

McWu - cash register goes 'Chia Ching' when order is ringed up!!! lol

evidently his nickname meaning 'little genius' is well deserved ...

They called him the little monster in the World Juniors, I found it alot more fitting.

{edit} heh, seems Kou has little monster already taken, they are gonna run out of nicknames in Taiwan.

Not surprising. There only seems to be about seven ways to say something in Chinese. It's the same with their music. There's slow gonging, and there's fast gonging, or you can gong at varying speeds to a crescendo with a twang on the end. It's god-awful. I remember being in a Chinese restaurant once when there was obviously some crisis in the kitchen. All we heard was an almighty crash as all the pans hit the floor. The waiters started dancing.

Chia Ching Wu is known as "little genious", and Po Cheng Kou is known as "little monster".

In addition, there's the other Wu kid from Taiwan. There's also the 16 year old Ko, whom Wu Chia Ching beat in the round of 64. Ko and Wu CC are actually classmates in the same high school. How's would you like to have 2 16 yr old world class pool players in highschool.

Thank you Boro Nut for your expert commentary on Chinese music and culture. Those were some keen observations. Your ability to extrapolate your experience in Chinese elevator music and apply them to the whole of Chinese music is down right breath taking.

I didn't know Wu was that young. Wow, 16, that's incredible. Did he win the world juniors? How does someone get that good by that age, and still find time for school?

He got second in the World Juniors, lost to Yu-Lun Wu, also 16 who breaks better. I dont know how good those kids do in school but I will say they probably wont use whatever they learn there for an income in their lifetime.

Unless pool players start making more money I really hope they use what they learn in school for an income. Now a days, anyone who says they want to play pool for a steady income, should sit back and look at the facts. . .

Maybe so Ace, but there are a number of pros who do make a living playing pool. Maybe it's not a super rich living with millions but how many of us get to live our life doing what we REALLY want to do rather than what we have to.

How many people have taken up poker as a career? Sure, statisitically, most of them won't be able to feed a family but some of them will and that's why they all try.

Maybe that's why this kid thanked his Grandmother instead of his father. Maybe his grandma believed enough in him to encourage him while dad just told him he was wasting his life.

I am big believer in going for what you want to do whenever possible. The key word is possible. If you have the means and the ability then go for it.

Plus I dont think alot of the pro players do bad. Archer and Strickland do fine, over 100K a year I am sure including endorsments. If you make it to that higher echelon where cue companies take notice and you get sponsered you do fine, better then the average 9-5 people out there. Heck, Wu just won more money then most people make in a year. Sigel quit pool to make more money, I am not sure how much richer he got quitting, the guy I am sure did decent on the tour with all his sponsership, and instead of helping the sport grow as its premier player he bailed on it to make cues that are not exactly selling like hotcakes. He cut off his nose to spite his face, he quit near his prime and it is questionable if he will ever be the legend that he could have been had he stuck around and battled Efren for these last 12 or so years.

I think Wu is certainly good enough to make a living playing pool, he isn't gonna get rich playing and he should definitely have a plan B in case things don't work out but this kid is so talented and with pool doing as well as it is in Asia right now I think he would be a fool not to play full time. Keep in mind he's only gonna get better as he matures and gains more experience, I know it's scary but it's true.

He'd make a killing in edorsements in Taiwan.
Jeesh, he could endorse cell phones, stores, clothes, other electronics, food, etc.
He needs to hit the gym though.
