You can choose more than one but please pick the critical ones that motivate you to attend or play. It doesn't matter whether you sweat or play, the promoters want to pack the house.

Location in proximity to my home.. What are my chances of playing a champion (I want the chance). That's why I love the DCC!!

That will always be the main reason for attending a tournament for most of us but I left it off the poll purposefully. REP to you for the quick response.

Now go participate in the poll but don't select everything, just the items that are critical to convincing you to play. :)

Thanks,

In the world of amateur tournaments, having a host location with an adequate amount of tables. I always avoid tournaments were I know there aren't enough playing tables much less practice tables.

To me, I prefer playing on 9 foot, well maintained, well spaced tables. I generally won't attend a tourney on 7 foot barboxes, even if Diamonds. I also can't stand it if there is music blaring, and drunken people all around. Just personal preference.

reason for attending

The DCC is one that I never think about the distance it is from me. I get to see the action and again see old friends I knew from Indiana in my younger days and the others I've met during the 20 years I spent in the army. You might get to play a champion or someone you've known for years. The national league tournaments in Vegas for the same reason.

Two very important items that were left out of the poll, IMO...

Tournament formats... type of game (7,8,9,10 ball 1Pkt) and elimination (double or single)

I see "deeper payouts" in there, but how about payouts that aren't so ridiculously deep that the people who cash can actually make a couple bucks? :)

I've never been a fan of the "get your entry fee back" bracket. It takes a lot of money out of the pot to pay a bunch of spots their entry fee back. I'd rather have a shot at making something if I come in the money than breaking even on the entry fee. If I don't cash, I don't cash. I knew what the financial risk was before entering the tournament. Not to mention, if you have to travel to a tournament, the entry fee is usually much less than your travel expenses so you're still stuck when you break even on your entry fee.

Jimmy, I understand what you are saying and I've heard it many times from players of your caliber and better.

The problem is that the majority of the players in a tournament are much further down the food chain from you and it is those players who are just dying to say, "I came in the money" and the ones in the next group below them just want to be able to say "I made it to one match out of the money" and there are a whole lot more of those guys than you and the other better players. If you don't cater to those at the middle level, you eventually lose all except the seasoned gluttons for punishment, like me. :)

im no high roller or anything..but i like to attend tourneys hoping to find some action..love to gamble!!!

I actually voted in THIS poll, but on the assumption that "big tables" referred to nine-foot tables.

I agree with this fully. When I see 64 players and they pay 24 spots with 17-24 getting back $25, well it's like kissing your sister.

The biggest factor for me, being in the military is how long is the tournament, and how long does it take me to get there. I can't put in for leave or pass for every tournament that I go to, so it has to be within a reasonable driving distance from where I am so that I can get back in time for work early Monday morning. Following that are quality of the field and expenses.

Convenience would be the biggest determinant for me.

Please expand on that, Jude. Besides, the convenience of the tournament being in close proximity to your home, what other convenience are you talking about?
Thanks,

I now wish I had put the day of the week factor in the poll. It is one of the most important criteria for me and I didn't even put it on there. If a tournament is held on the weekend, at least 50% of my decision-making is done.

Thanks,
JoeyA
