Have you had any troubles with it? If not, it's a good glue. I had used loc-tite 454 for a number of years with great success but it is expensive, hard to find and has both a short shelf and pot life. At over 20.00 a tube, in the winter busy season for tip replacement, I would use about 2/3 of the tube before throwing the rest away for fear that it might be going bad. During the summer slow season, I would only use about a 1/10 of a tube. To save money I started using the loc-tite Ultra Gel as it can be bought locally and in much smaller quantities. Last winter came along and I just kept using the Ultra Gel as it works so well. By the way, once opened I only keep the container for 3 to 4 weeks before throwing away to insure that it is fresh and strong. In my business I can't get a reputation that my tips don't stay on.

I use Loctite 454 also. I have never had a problem with it. Luckily I have a buddy who gets it for me wholesale. I get a bunch of the small tubes to avoid most of the shelf life trouble.

super glue

Keep the glue in the refrigerator and It will last 5 times longer.
Just a heads up. I have been using it on knives for twenty years and kept one bottle for three years in the refrig and it was still as good as new when I went to use it.
A manufactor of super glue told me to do this.

I've also had real good luck with 454. I keep the tubes sealed in a zip-loc bag, and in the fridge until I'm ready to open them.

When I first decided to try loctite I called them up and they put me in contact with one of their chemist. I told him what I wanted to use the glue for gluing leather tips to different types of ferrules and he's the one who recommended the 454. This was some time back so there may be better adhesives now as the technology is constantly evolving. He is the one who told me about the short shelf and pot life. He said to always keep the un-opened tubes in the refrigerator until ready for use but once opened to never put them back. He said that as soon as the tube is opened air enters the tube and if put back into the refrigerator the moisture in the air will condensate causing the glue to go bad much quicker as moisture is what sets it off. He also said that that is the reason that many stores don't carry the 454 as it needs refrigeration and if I seen it just sitting on a stores shelf I would be much safer buying elsewhere.

Best tip glue

Thanks for the tip on refrigeration Dick. I too have been storing my opened cyno in the fridge. I use the rubber toughened Loctite as well. Great product! I used to use the 454, but got tired of throwing away half used tubes. Good thread.

> I've used Loctite in several formulations,Satellite City,BSI,and Flash CA glues with great results, other than they eventually go bad. The Satellite City glues are hard to find locally,so I quit using them. I've used the Loctite in the squeeze packing like shown here, and the glue is FINE,but it seems to go bad faster than others. BSI is also hard to get locally, the Flash was good also but went bad within 10 days.

I can get Gorilla Glue CA at Wal-Mart at 5 in the morning if I need it,so I've been using it for months. No failures,it's pretty cheap, and lasts a while at room temperature.

With any CA glue, the whole deal is SURFACE PREP. Tommy D.

I use the same stuff and have not had a tip come off.

To kep air out of the bottle I take off the cap, dispense, and replace the cap all while the bottle is inverted. Certainly not 100% sure, but much better than leaving the cap off while it stands on the bench....
