what is the best joint???

The joint of my South West (3/8x11) has frozen on me ~5 times in the 20 years I've owned it. All but one time, I could break the fusion with the help of a friend. But one time, after about 2 weeks of failed attempts, I had to use a rubber strap oil filter wrench to separate them. Since then, every time I play with the cue for the first 5 minutes, I break the joint a crack and recinch it. It gives the shaft a chance to adjust to whatever temperature or humidity condition that was causing the problem. I haven't had the problem in the past 10 years or so. It's not enough of a problem to keep me from wanting another.

What is the best joint?? You need to just try different joints an pick one. Think of it like masturbation you know what works for you an fells good. Get it, now that wasn't too tough. Sorry sometimes I forget what site I'm on.

To me the most important things are the joint centers the shaft on the butt and screws together tight.

i have played with stainless 5/16 by 14 joint for ever i now play with a radial pin dont think theres any better aj

5/16x14 piloted with a wood pilot. Black, Mottey etc. Don't just settle for a brass pilot!

Here's the info I've been recylcing for years. This topic comes up every other year or so.

Many cue makers built 5/16X14 piloted joints with just a brass insert or a bit of wood sticking out, i.e., the pilot. These are not flat faced, since the face of the joint has a pilot (on the shaft) and a recess (on the butt)

On this shaft, the pilot is rounded, but there isn't alot of brass showing (but there is some wood showing)

On this shaft, more brass showing (but there is still some wood showing)

On this shaft, there is almost NO wood showing, and only the pilot is showing

Just the butt

Here are some examples of some different joints:

I wonder

why people ask what is the best joint? tip? shaft? cue? Because everyone is just going to answer what they shoot with is the best .... lol So the answers are biased at best.

^ Why do people respond to threads that pose legit questions with jibberish. Those responses don't further the conversation...
