What is the best pool hall you ever played in? And where is it?

Best room

Don,

For what it is worth, I remember you when you played in an event we had.
We talked a little and I remember you were from kalispell.

Hope you doing good.

Man, that had to be 10+ years ago.

Well you would be prejudiced Mark, it was your room! But I totally agree it was the coolest and classiest place I have ever had the pleasure of playing in. Don Lundy [the truck driver]

Le Spot Billiards

Le Spot in Toronto, Canada....the place had it all, hustlers, rounders, homeless folk, millionaires, pro's, action, talk about proposition bets OMG...it never ended. Our weekly Monday night 6 red snooker tournament had 60-100 players on a regular basis for years....heck, we even had a dog that seen more pool halls on the road than most hustlers have. I'm sure there are a few pool halls out there that could have books written on what's taken place inside....Le Spot would be one for sure! And shall I not forget...we also like to call it the home of Alex "the lion" Pagulayan.

The Billiard Palace

I'd vote for the 211 club when it was still at 211 Union. Great place to play, a real pool hall no bs allowed. I remember that if you played with one of the house cues and liked it they would offer to put it away for you so you could use it next time you came in.

Heck, at Lakewood Family Billiards in Lakewood, CA (funny thing) you could have a house cue stored behind the counter. They had 14 Acme tables, WTF, and 2 snooker tables. That's where it all began.

But one of the best and one of my all time favorites was Vern Peterson's Billiard Palace in Bellflower, CA. It was upstairs on Bellflower Blvd; nothing but pool. You want action, it was there. It was later highlighted by 'Big Bertha'. Yeah, the same 6'x12' snooker table now found at Hard Times Bellflower. Cole Dickson seemed like he was always there for some entertaining times. You could run into a young (14 or so) Keith McCready and many others. There were pro events in Hollywood/Burbank or Long Beach and after those were finished for the evening some of those folks would filter into the Palace as it was open 24/7. I first ran into NY Blackie after one of the tournaments and many more of the likes.

No frills, just pool!

My definition of best is different than yours but I've got the happiest memories from Comet Lanes in Grand Rapids Mich. I spent more time on that snooker table than almost any table but my own. Best company and competition I've had playing pool. RIP George, Boyd and Eddie.

Champs/CJ's , Gaston Ave. , Dallas . First pool room i was in that you could order food . Had great french fries , and they weren't chincy on ketchup . The couple years i went there there was usually action , open 24 hours.

That would be Buffalo Billiards in Metairie, Louisiana..................

Best Pool Room

Some players in Denver might remember this place. My favorite room was Billiards On The Hill in Boulder CO. To me it was very comfortable place to play. Their also was guy standing on the corner asking if you wanted to buy grass. Also in Costa Mesa CA was the Shark Club. They had great food. They also had free pool with lunch which they pizzas .They had waiting list thurs.and fridays.

The Playing Field in Richmond was a pretty nice place maybe 10 years ago or so

Not sure what happened to it ...

Salem, Oregon. No bar, no TV, and by state law, no smoking. Pool, snooker, 3 cushion. Good tables...not a bar box in the place.

Country Club in Mass. was my personal favorite. Hate that it closed down.

Met a lot of AZB guys at that place. Lots of fun memories.

Ferroni's Family Billiards in Modesto, CA - early 80's
West End Billiards, Elizabeth, NJ - early 90's

Both are closed. :(

Parlor Billiards in Bellevue Wa. 5 million dollar pool room with hottest wait staff and a world champion house pro.

Impossible to choose the best. These are all best in their own way.
Carom Cafe NYC
Shakesperes Denver
Hollywood Billiards N. Hollywood
Hollywood Elks
Grand and Olive St. Louis

I thank the AZB family for their input! It is so sad that so many good pool halls have closed! Pool is a great sport and pass time game. It just needs a lot of support from players, pool hall owners and fans of the game!

When I was in Metairie I really liked Racketeers in the N.O. area. That was many many moons ago.

Their weekend tournaments were legendary but I found the a/c 5 or 10 tons short. It was a beautiful building with the highest ceilings of any pool room I have ever been in. The two bars was a plus and if I am not mistaken, was a building that in years gone past, contained the illegal gambling that was popular throughout Louisiana. Ok, it had a lot going for it. :D
