What is the best way to buy a new Diamond table?

Diamond must have changed their business plan since 2007. I called them and ordered a 9ft pro and they built it and then shipped it to me. They even sent me pictures of the table as it was being made:cool:

Same here...and that was last year. Took a while, especially as I was holding out for the return of Dymondwood, but settled for rosewood-stained oak and love it. Got it for the factory direct price, delivered and installed. Did it over the phone and via email updates.

Not hard to understand at all really. Someone is gonna plop down a good chunk of their hard earned money and is offered a deal where they can save a coup.email thousand of those hard earned dollars. As far as who is supplying it, we'll I'm sure EZ felt good about the purchase once many well respected members from our forum vouched for him having done many deals that went great. Btw; back to the purchase, saving a coup, email grandelivery on a $6-7k purchase is a HUGE % of savings - who wouldn't jump on that with these circumstances ? ??

I get you may be a little butt hurt that you and other " authorized dealers " can not be competitive because of your deal with Diamond but can't see it being this other guys fault. He's saving is folks a good deal of money so good for him. Also; licensing and what not aside, undercutting is one of the great pillars of capitalism. You know some folks may even say not allowing XXX price could be considered borderline price fixing...... As to being " in another country " ( Canada ), that is probably exactly
why he can offer such good deals so once again good for him ( and Canada ). If the system wasn't so rigged Americans could be getting their same prescriptions we get here for pennies on the dollar. ( just another example of cross border trade not meant to be political )

To the OP - another resource worth checking out is OBM on Facebook. I see Diamonds on there all over the place frequently. Good luck!

Not "butt hurt", I have an opinion about it because it does in fact directly affect my business. I cannot and would not ever sell anything for less than the factory says I can, or for more than for that matter.

I sell the tables for exactly the same factory price with the wait of course. I sell them for no more than the MSRP either, I always have the tables on hand and ready to go. No one is saving "thousands". He does not actually stock the tables and I never brought up the retail part until I needed to explain it to "smashmouth" who obviously knows nothing about the business ends of the market. He showed that very clearly to me and us all by his post. I was very clear on how things work. I am entitled to my opinion in general and specifically because it is an issue that in a small way wastes my time and that means money because my time is valuable. People from 5 states away call me to price haggle and it really is a waste of time because I would never sell for less than any other dealer, even Heath. :) Everyone has an opinion of course.

I'm just quoting this part, hoping you can break that down a little for me. The retailer that Diamond sent me to quoted me literally "thousands" more than I bought it for.

The only thing I could say in their defense is this: if you are buying it from someone very far away, the table price might have been right on MSRP, but, delivery might have been ridiculously expensive. Delivering one table can be very, very expensive. Splitting 10 deliveries and installations is much more reasonable. That being said though I cannot speak for that person/company and they have a side of the story too, we are only hearing your side. They also could obviously be total crooks and liars. You should report them to Diamond for price gouging.

I am happy you did not fall for it. I think I have made my point very clear about what my issue was. At the end of the day there are rules and some choose not to follow them. Some rules simply do not apply to others. I love what I do and was just venting about the unfair part about rules. Not losing sleep over it and not trying to argue. This forum is great for sharing opinions, facts and is a valuable resource for all of us. I hope I maintained a calm and non confrontational demeanor through out this topic. If I did not, I never meant any disrespect to anyone. I hope I was clear enough about the statements I made and I stand behind them. I care about the industry I work in and the customer is the most important part of it all. Customer satisfaction is my #1 goal. Yes, I must make money, but, HONESTLY. Thanks for everyone putting up with my opinions an facts :) At the end of the day I am a pool player just like anyone else. Have a good day and get shooting some pool!

You’ve been fine, man. Just a bunch of dudes talking about tables. I would have ordered that table on the spot for the nearly $8,000 quote (I’m bad with money sometimes), but when I asked him about the blue label he told me that he had no idea what that meant. Told me that “a diamond table is a diamond table”. That’s when I asked around and gasped when I received my next quote.

I purchased one directly from Diamond a few years ago that was sold to me as a brand new unused table, but it wasn't until a year later when we recovered it, that we could see from the staple gun dents that it had been recovered before. I never contacted Diamond about it, as it wasn't worth the aggravation and lies I'm sure they would have told me, as otherwise it appeared brand new.

Hold on a second. If they really did sell you a used table under the pretense that it is new, then this is scandalous behavior, IMO. Surprised no one else focused on this. I can only hope that there was some innocent confusion going on if this is true.

The most complete listing for Milwaukee or Chicago is Estatesales.net. Put in Chicago as your location and dozens will be regularly listed including the Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha sales. Google Estate Sales Chicago and other listings will also come up. These are national advertising sites for estate sales. Just look at the list of keyword item descriptions and look at every picture. Pool tables in general are sometimes throwaway items at estate sales because often it is the responsibility of the selling company to empty the house. Forget about pool cues because for some reason even relatives that don't know diddly about pool know that cues can be goldmines. All that's left are the house cues normally. Sometimes they don't even list pool tables in the items list, so you have to look for them in the pictures.

Bidding for items is also allowed. If something doesn't sell the first day, you can normally put in a bid on the item at 51% of asking price or greater. Highest bidder gets the item the next day. Prices regularly get reduced each day the estate sale continues. The third day most or all items left sell for 25% of original asking price.

Thanks for the great info! I've been playing around with EstateSales.net the last couple days. It's a very handy site. After creating an account, I was able to set up "Treasure Tracker" searches. These are basically saved keyword searches that notify me as soon as a new estate sale pops up matching my search criteria within a specified distance.

One thing I quickly realized is that perusing estate sale photographs can be somewhat depressing. You're looking at all this stuff that gives you a glimpse into who that person was and what their personality was like. Much of this stuff was cherished by them at one time or another, and now it is all just lumped into one big sale while they are either dead or living in a nursing home.

Anytime Billiards

been lurking for a long time, and thought this thread was a good place to finally contribute. Been looking for a table for a few months and finally decided to purchase a new Diamond Pro-Am. Called Diamond and they referred me to Anytime Billiards in Des Moines so I called them. I have not yet placed an order (have to save some overtime pay to recover from Christmas - 4 kids are expensive this time of year!), but I've been VERY impressed by the communication and friendliness I've experienced so far. I'll post a thread once I have my table installed, but at this point I'm pretty comfortable telling anyone to give them a shout if you're looking for a new Diamond table. Seem like a class act so far. Also the 'package' price (bottom line, installed with balls etc) I've been quoted is.... quite good. give these guys a call. seriously.

I've been talking to Jonas (not sure if it's kosher to post a phone number, but I'm sure Google can help you out with that.)

edit: forgot to note: I also talked to Manning cues and Heath was also very friendly and professional. But I'd prefer to do business with someone who's a little closer to me, and all told I'd end paying a bit more through him (could very well be due to delivery differences etc)

Now that is how ya do it! Happy to see people supporting Diamond dealers in the USA :) Pool is an American Sport, we should all support our network of dealers all across the country. In order for our sport to grow, everyone must do their part. Props to you Anytime Billiards!

I highly recommend West State Billiards in Fullerton, CA if you're on the West Coast or nearby. They are a great outfit to deal with and Donny Wessels is a terrific table mechanic! He is not one to blow his own horn so I will do it for him. Anyone looking for a Diamond table out this way should give them a call (800)266-8914.

All due respect, if you look at the thread title, his reply has everything to do with the thread. May not be the best or easiest way, but that's just me.

Yeah, if you want to take it there and I still think its ridiculous. People who own business's like other their people(aka friends) to support them in their endeavors, not ask for hand outs. I am pretty sure Greg would rather be playing pool, not taking cash and selling the tables out the back door at night... They are the best selling pool tables in the world, they practically sell themselves and I HIGHLY doubt this actually happens. Not saying it has or hasn't in the past, but, because of what I said in my last sentence I am fairly confident he is currently not doing that or concerned with spending his time that way.

I totally agree! Just thought it was a little harsh (can’t think of a better word) to call out our resident senior citizen like that for giving his opinion (even though I bet he hasn’t read the thread). Could have just as easily let it go, like I could have done with your reply. I’m just bored I guess.

My excuse is that I am a pool NERD. I am on here all the time, I surely could be a lil less serious, but, I take my business very seriously. I have talked to Dean before on the phone a couple of times, he is surely a serious player. I agree would we could use some comic relief from time to time! :)
