What is the most often misspelled/mispronounced PRO POOL player name

Are you saying Efrem was the correct, original spelling ?!
Believe it or not Efren's name getting butchered to Efrem is so common.
His first custom-made case from Instroke read Efrem Reyes.
Then another case was named Efren MAGICAN Reyes.
We called him MAGICAN after that.:D

Dennis Orcullo - I hear it pronounced often as "Or-CULL-oh" than the correct "Or-COOL-YO"

I'd have to say Colin Colenso because he's most often mistaken for a pool player.:D:eek::D:eek:

Just kiddin' Colin

I agree

I thought that Mitch and Eva butchering Xiaoting Pan's name and calling her "XT" was the worst.

I was of course being tongue in cheek about Efren's name. About Pan, I found it ridiculous and a wee bit offensive that two professionals in the booth couldn't take the time to learn to pronounce her name correctly. Of course perhaps the world's greatest gymnast ever had her last name mispronounced for years.

The funniest mispronunciation I ever heard was when racing cars. A fellow driver was named Lavon. Lavon was general manager USA of a fair sized company and had an ego as big as the great outdoors. He was also given to temper tantrums. A track owner always called him Laverne and could not tell he was saying the name any differently than anyone else so it was impossible to correct him. Of course being called Laverne in the driver's meetings and over the PA addressing the crowd, Lavon's new name was spread far and wide. Watching Lavon turn fourteen shades of red and purple while manfully not saying anything about being called by a woman's name was worth the price of admission to the track all by itself!

Hu

I have heard Pagulyans name butchered plenty of times. Paganoly comes to mind as the most recent one.

Southpaw

is that YO in the end correct? I thought the emphasis in his name was on the first vowel, and that being the reason for -o/u- in the middle. Like "OR-call-o". If it is Or-COOL-YO it changes a lot for me ;)

A story by Jerry Forsyth is hilarious! Suchs-Diks, LOL. They should have made the draw so that those two never meet :D

I'll second thorsten as the most mispronounced ever... it looks easy but the Th is a hard "T" sound. So it's just torsten out loud. Hence, 'toasty' =)
I'd say almost every commentator says it incorrectly.

YO as in You. :)
But that WPC announcer shouting BUSTARAMANTE was funny.
Then he tried yelling Efren Pinakamagaling Reyes. :D  I almost fell off my chair laughing.

You forgot "numero uno!" ;)

Am I missing something? I always thought his name was pronounced Or-coy-yo with the accent on the "coy" part.

My teammate was trying to tell me about this hot german chick he saw on ESPN named "Ocean". It took me a while to figure out he was talking about Jasmin Ouschan... which I've always pronounced "oo-shawn". I quickly corrected him, and let him know she's Austrian, not German.

I think I was laughing so hard, I missed that part. :D
There used to be a tv series too wherein the characters were supposed to be in Manila during WWII. The background signs were in Arabic. :D

.
The accent on Filipino names and Tagalog words are ALWAYS the last syllable.
There are only 4 ways to pronounce Tagalog words or names.
Slow, slow with an accent at the end.
Fast and fast with an accent at the end. ONLY syllables that end on a vowel can have accent.
Orcullo would be a slow read with no accent as in Or-Cool-You.
Filipinos also pronounce LL's closer to the Castillan way than the Latin American Spanish. Like Pollo would be pronounced Pol-Yo in the Philippine while the Latinos would pronounce it Po-Yo.

yes she is Austrian but in Austria they speak German :) And in German words are read like they are written, and Jasmin's (YA-smin's) last name is read o-u-SHAN. (shan sounding like shut)

I think it could be nice to keep this thread posting correct ways of pronouncing names so that we do it properly and help others do the same. Like I was asking Shane for how his name sounded exactly since we here couldn't ever figure it should be read like "bone" :o
Pinoys can teach us reading Tagalog names and so on.
