What is the purpose of this forum?

it would appear obvious, but most people use the forum to obtain information about events or to better their games in some fashion......

The purpose(s) of this forum is to ask (a) pool related question(s) and hope to get (a) friendly answer(s) from (a) fellow member(s). A lot of time other (another) member(s) use sarcasm in their post(s) but it's all in good fun.

:D

Also, it's used for talk of anything Pool related (ie. Past events, upcoming events, experiences with pros, sharing you own run outs and victories, tournament experience, help regarding a shot... etc etc etc)

I think the purpose falls into the catagory of 'degrees'...
First timers/lurkers are here for many reasons. They may have stumbled here, referred, googled, and perhaps pleasantly surprised to be here. First timers ask old questions and mostly are treated gently with their initial questions answered and then directed how to use the archives.
Those that stay and participate beyond three weeks find a way to enjoy the give and take in hopes of improving there pool games.
Those that stay and post/respond beyond the point of diminishing returns, that point being when more time is spend at your computer terminal then actually hitting pool balls, are no longer improving their pool games. These long termers have to know this is a fact.
"What is the purpose of this forum?" This forum is whatever you make it. For some it is a useful tool, for others it is a trap, and to some it is a nice place and a friendly community where they can enjoy communications with like minded folks.
I find it interesting that the gatekeeper finds this question non-pool related...I think I'll go hit some balls...LOL

Or perhaps its the only way they can fit a little bit of Pool into there work day and make most of their posts from work since most of there time off is shooting. A lot of posts can be made in 8 hours :D

That's Easy!

POOL KNOWLEDGE, CUE BUYING AND SELLING, AND THE NON POOL RELATED FORUM CAN BE ENTERTAINING!!!!!
Purdman:D

[sarcasm]This forum is used exclusively for bangers and armatures to bash pro players.[/sarcasm] :D

I use this forum to learn about all aspects of pool, be it the mental game, strategy, tips on books, tapes, schools, cue care, to socialize with fellow pool enthusiasts, to learn about pro events (I would have NEVER known about the 14.1 Worlds in New Brunswick without this forum) and just about anything else related to billiards.

Hope this helps!

To discuss anything related to pool.

It's not a learning or teaching tool. If anyone learn's anything, it's a happy by-product.
It's not a chat room, though there is a fair amount of chattiness.

It's a virtual pool hall where we shoot the $hit about pool.

Fred

I'm with Fred. It does feel like a virtual poolroom, and I'll often shoot this shit in my physical poolroom and bring stuff up that, I realize later, I heard here first.

There should be as many purposes as there are pool aficionados. We got pros, equipment experts, shortstops, amateurs, teachers, bureaucrats, etc. and that makes for a variety of purposes. Mine are:

1)I get to hear the latest and the remotest in the pool world;
2)I get a sense of community and have even made a few valued friends (sometimes they are already friends and happen to post)
3)I learn everything from pool lingo, to shots, to mental aspects, to trivia;
4)I get entertained by the back and forth dialogue;

What is your motivation, unknownpro?

The purpose of this forum is to bring together people sharing an interest in pool, thereby enabling them to share knowledge, experiences, and accomplishments relating to pool with people likely to welcome such sharing.
