what is the tightest pocket specs that can be used on a diamond or brunswick to play all games and not lose cue play movement (playing shape) an still pocket the ball? thanks for your time professor

Here again we have different in table manufactures and spec's. Diamond has a deeper slate pocket shelf than Brunswick, so a 4 1/4" corner pocket on a Diamond is going to play quite differently than a 4 1/4" corner pocket on a Brunswick. Also, a lot of that "position" play is also dependent on the players ability to control the cue ball. Some players have a stroke that will allow them to get position anywhere on the table with 4" pockets, while others need 4 1/2" pockets to get the same position play:grin:
 
it all depends on how you want to be able to freely move the cue ball and the speed of hit, other than that the tightest pocket you can use is as small as the ball can fit through lol
 
Really clueless.....

I'd guess it depends on who installs the "new" rails.....all I can say is that the 7' Diamond tables at the Western Regional BCA 9-Ball tournaments were -- well -- TIGHT!!! :grin-square:
