Hello,

A new trend is sweeping the area I live in. It’s playing with a light cue. I’m talking about 16 to 17.5 oz’s. Me personally I’ve been playing with a cue witch is 19.25 oz and I’ve recently started playing with a cue that is 19.6 oz. There are thinks I like about both weights. I feel my stroke is a bit better with a heavier cue, but my touch is a bit better with the lighter one. That might change with some practice.

So, what’s the weigh of your cue?

wow

17.3? I played with a cue that was 16.7. It was weird. Not bad, but not good either.

Can you move the rock on a 9' table?

The lighter your cue, the more tip speed you can get. This results in more speed, follow, draw, spin, etc.

The heavier the cue, the more its mass corrects flaws in your stroke.

I compromise the two with a 19.25 oz. cue.

yes i own an old 96 plain jane mcdermott 19oz but i took the weight out and cut it in half so it's approx 18.5 now and i like it lighter like that especially playin for awhile it does'nt wear my arm out as bad as a heavier cue

18.2 ounces

Started out twenty plus years ago at 19.75 unces. Went up to 20.5 very briefly, hated it, and went progressively lighter until 16.75 ounces got comfortable. Finally settled down at 18.2 ounces about 11 years ago when I got my one of a kind, custom made for me, Tim Scruggs cue. Ordered it to be 18.5, but lowered it after about six months playing with it. Now if I play with anything heavier, it takes me quite a while to adjust, not to mention my arm gets tired really quick!

19.5oz

Started with lighter cues and worked up, 19.5 is about perfect for me.

cue weight

about a 19.25 19.5 is perfect to me.any more or less messes with my stroke.i would say the weight of your cue would vary with different stroke and grip.i wouldn't put too much on what everyone else uses.just what works for u.another thing is the balance point.i've found that makes as much difference as anything

Here is what's strange for me.
Typically my ideal weight is right around 19.7.
Mike Webb is building me a cue and he has let me hit with numerous cues. The last cue I hit with was 18.9 and I would have swore it was around 19.5. Based on Mike's construction techniques my cue from him will most likely be around 19.4. Forward punch does a lot in terms of how a cue feels.

For me alot of cues feel right in the verticle position but when you bring them to horizontal they feel way to light. I think this has alot to do with how well the cue is balanced. My current cues are around 19-19.5 oz. I have a cue on order and I ordered it heavier for this reason. My new cue is going to be around 20oz. Also most of my cues have a forward balance to them. On most of my cues the balance point is roughly 1.5 inches or more above the wrap.

I play with an 18.5 weighted cue - I can't seem to play with a heavier cue.

June Hager Walter used to shoot with like a 15 oz cue. She swore by it - and even broke with a light cue. I think Jim Buss helped her to get her cue light or made her a light weight cue.

yeah it moves alright, sometimes it doesn't know where it's going though:D

Started out with a 19.5 SS joint, which was about OK. Then got a sneaky at the same weight, but it felt butt-heavy, so I cut the weight bolt in half and that felt about right. Main playing cue now is a 19.2 with phenolic, flat-faced joint. They all feel pretty much the same to me.
