For the past 2 years the quality of some cue builder went down !

Why is that!

Is it because the wood age ?
Is it because CHINA ?
Is it because Money...... ?

I don't know anymore......

DO YOU ?

What is your favorite 3 cushion cue and why

Hey Gilbert,

Firstly,

You could play with a broom stick and play well!

Secondly,

I think 3C cues in general have improved significantly. I play with a Helmstetter/Adams. I like the hit but has a little more deflection than I would like. I've been experimenting with altered Predator and OB2 shafts.

Being a cue seller, I'm generally agnostic about brand.

If a brand has degenerated, it's usually based on wood stock quality.

I have a Viguera that feels insanely smooth, for lack of a tangible term!

I also have a Kilby with a Shooni taper that I like better...and it is prettier too.

how is the shooni taper? i had looked at that....wouldn't it be too whippy for carom?

The Shooni taper I have on my Dieckman is just a teeny tiny whippier than a cone. I think I can get more spin with it. Maybe an illusion but I tested both tapers on the same butt for 3 months and settled on the Shooni.

By the way my vote goes to D. Dieckman.

Played for years with Longoni, Dragon, and Sims. All had their individual benefits. DD puts them all together in one cue.

I mostly play a Schuler. Have several shafts but I mainly use the 10.5 mm snooker, Talisman tip. I like the longer shaft and 'in my mind' I think it helps me see the ball better. Also sometimes use an old Helmstetter snooker cue with a 9.5mm tip but only when I'm super confident with my stroke.

Having played with Schulers, Kilbys (one with a Shooni taper, which I liked very much), and a Gabriels, I'm now using an old Titleist conversion carom cue, wood screw, 12.4 mm tip, 57 inches length, gradual taper, 500 grams (but i use a rubber sleeve which brings it up to about 530 grams). I believe it was once Bill Smith's playing cue, and I do like it very much for its balance and soft but solid hit. Not much deflection. The wood is very old, which I think may contribute to cue's playing qualities.

I play with a Kilby with Shooni taper. I really enjoy this cue and so far have not found one I like better. Personally I do not find the taper to be "whippy" in the least. I would recommend a cue from Ron to any one looking for a quality custom carom cue.

Is he still building cues? I know he worked for Helmstetter.

Where would I find one?
Call Felipe They're good friends. Adrian has been playing with a Dieckman for years but that doesn't mean he's quit making cues especially since I hear he lost his DD somehow and looking to get another.

ray schuler cue might be the best

i've been playin with a longoni cue for 2.5 years. it costed me 1040 to own it. It plays well, a little bit shorter than the shuler, with a wood join. longonies are good but not the best in my opinion.
I tried an Adam cue and a Hemsteter cue. They very similar to Longoni base on my observation.
I bought a Ray Schuler lately and i think Schuler is the best Hitting cue. It has a solid hit due to the forward ballance of the cue and the steel join. I dont know if the quality has changed since it looks like they dont have the same group of people that are making the Schuler cues.

It's a personal preference. If you own it and play it, then you better like it.

What should be the weight for a three cushion cue? 19 OZ or lighter?

Quality control!!!!DON'T MISSUNDERSTAND ME PLEASE!

Guys, here is my story,

I played with Schuler cue like 15Years ago,I loved the cue and I collected the High end schulers!
Anyway to make the long story short, After certain clinic with George asby and Roberto Rohas I decided to change from Metal joint to wood joint!!!
I played with hermestetter & with Adam cues right?
After feeling the cue I discovered that these cue quality dropped like really bad,(BAD shafT NOT AGED PROPERLY)I don't know who's making them and how but ;
The new Schuler and the new Adam and the new Hermestetter ARE really bad.(I ALREADY SEND THE ABOVE COMPANY A COMPLAIN LETTERS)
No quality control at all , and it's not me only, everybody is complaining in the south coast and in mexico!

So finally to played it safe , AND I DECIDED TO GO WITH LONGONI CUES, AT LEAST I HAVE A WARRANTY AND GOOD QUALITY SHAFTS.

I have a Diekman, two Helmstetters, and a cue made by Ron Kilbey.

I will never buy a new cue, but I am thinking about building one for myself can't be that difficult!!!!:)

Finally got to complete the register form, a lot of pool tricky questions...
Well I'm new at this forum, I'm from Colombia and currently live in Bogota where 3 cushions it's played a lot and of course I'm a great fan of this game.
For me there are a lot of good cues already named (Schuler, Helmstetter, Adam, Alcalde, etc...), for me there are two key ingredients in a good cue, the shaft first and then the tip, if you have both you have a good cue weather is cheap or expensive. Of course the cue has to be straight and balanced.
I have owned over 25 high end cues all already named and recently a Layani which I did not like, In my experience the best cue that I’ve ever owned was a Schuler cue back in 1997. I’m currently averaging 0,600 to 0,700 but don’t have much time to practice…
Here in Colombia the level has been improving lately there are like 10 players that can play consistently over 1.200 average, hope that the level keeps rising and soon have a couple players competing in Europe.
Regards to all...sorry for the English…

tlian, welcome to Az and The Carom Billiards Section. We hear a lot about cues already mention. But hardly anything on 3C Cuemakers in Mexico and South America. Can you tell us anything on Colombia Cuemaker? And Your English, lot better than mine!

Thanks I'm happy to be finally a member.
Well about cue makers around here there is not much, just a couple cue makers that manufacture mid end cues, here's what I know:
Mexico: Villaseñor a pretty good cue as long as you're able to choose it personally. Last year I bought one for my wife’s dad at the billiard store of Roberto Rojas in Mexico DF. First thing to do: "change the tip". Check his website www.elittepro.com, nice tables too.

Colombia: Chilito is a local manufacturer that has been improving the quality of his cues, he has based on adams cues design, currently Jaime Bedoya (1.100 player high run 26, good friend of mine...pleasure to watch him play) a former and retired Colombian and Panamerican champion plays with his cue.

Perú: Altuna was a brand of cues I saw like 10 years ago, nice cue haven't seen them since.

All are wooden joint, there might be more manufacturers for sure...

Thanks for the info tlian. And welcome to the forum. Look forward to hearing more from you and Bogota.
