Banks, long or short rack would be my all time fav.

8-ball comes in next especially in a bar, cause I can drink there. In my older age (35), I like to drink more and playing bar box 8ball gets me alot of free pool and drinks. :)

I voted for 14.1. What I like about it is the continual problem solving that it requires and the fact that it offers countless opportunities for the use of creativity and finesse. I also believe that it presents the greatest challenge defensively of all the games played over the glorious green felt. In nine ball, you need only deny opponent a shot on one ball. In one pocket, you must deny opponent a shot into one of the six pockets, but in 14.1, you must account for every ball and every pocket when you play defense.

Straight pool - cause thats the game I grew up on.:) Also love 9 ball - cause I play that real well.;)

I think a favorite is very time sensitive. Right now, my favorite is 8-ball. Mainly because that is what is played in league and league starts in a week. I have almost finished reading Phil Capelle's, Play Your Best Eight Ball. I recommend it to anybody who plays a lot of 8-ball. I would love to play some 1 pocket, but can't find anyone to play with me:(

One-Pocket. At my age,{60} I can win without running out, thus conserving considerable energy

straight pool, because it's very pure and seems very fair, though there's obviously luck in any pool game. It seems bland at first, but there's actually a lot of drama that comes with every rack... The buildup to getting just right on the break shot and then the shot itself, followed by the frequently tough first shot after the break... followed by the effort to find a good ball to rebreak the pack... plus the occasional struggle to manufacture a break ball when none exists... finally you're back at square one. The pressure to make good runs and continue them adds something that just isn't part of the other games, and the feeling of running a lot of balls is better than the feeling of running 1 or even several racks of 8/9b.

I like 9-ball. It's truely a game of domination. To win, you have to shutout your opponent; now that is a game!

8 ball on a bar box, 8 footer, or 9 footer...doesn't matter. That's the game I feel most comfortable with, gamble at, and feel I have a good advantage against most of the idiot bangers looking to come in and impress someone because they have $10.00 in their pocket.

I like 10 ball. The need for run out power of 9 ball, top of the line safety game required, break outs like in 8 ball, and the need for a killer break and not just a good rack.

That said, I really loved the days when all I played was snooker. Very rewarding game where every shot can make your day. The other nice thing about snooker is typically the players have tons of class and act accordingly keeping the game very respectable where I have found a big mix in pool where some players are all class, other are missing the "cl".

I voted for One-Pocket even though I favor Straight Pool ... It's easier to find a 1-Pocket Game these days ...

One Pocket 'cause:

1,2,3,4,5 rail banks
1,2,3,4,5 rail kicks
nasty safeties that make people squirm worse than ball in hand in 9-ball
the ability to challenge your opponent with various degrees of penalties
you must know when its best to play safe versus shoot
intentional scratches without ball-in-hand
a little less luck than in the other games
you can stall
double kiss safeties and banks
tickys
caroms
english banks
force-follow hug-the-rail shots
freezing a guy on the rail 10 times in 15 minutes
having someone study the lay of the balls for a few minutes and exclaim, I'm f***ed!
