what is your most embarrassing moment playing pool

State Tournament

The first time I ever played in the Indiana State tournament, I was a little nervous I guess.

Won the lag, and broke the balls well. I continue to run out the game and after making the 8 ball, the guy I was playing said, "You lose, you didnt mark your pocket for the 8." I played okay, but a break and run even for 8 ball was not something I did routinely.

Yep, I thought it was a nitty thing to do. I got upset and should have won the match, but I didnt.

I still think about that match. Sometimes I lose track of what embarasses me more, losing the game for not marking the pocket, or being so stupid to let it bother me and eventually lose the match.

Well, add another to the list. Last time I ever played in leather soles.

My partner jumped and yells "2 balls, corner pocket!"

Playing a game of 8-ball at the (maybe 2009) University of Michigan Team Pool Championship for West Virginia University and tried slow rolling this ball in the corner pocket on a very clustered table.

As you can see the cloth really slowed it down and I laid it up. Went on to win the game, but got so much grief from the team for missing this shot and then it wound up being recorded...

1:02-1:08, I was not interviewed in this video, but that's my shot...

Bah, I hope I am never on live stream... It would be a comedy of errors.

About 10 years ago, Robb Saez was letting me try out his new break cue. It had a phenolic tip - and I had never used a cue that had one of those before and I wanted to try it out. So Robb racks the balls and I give the cue ball a whack - and to our amazement, it flies through the air like it had been shot out of a cannon. I can still see it going through the air like it was in slow motion ... because on the table in front of us there was a match going on ... Ralf Souquet was down in his stance and on his final stroke when the cue ball hit him right in the ass, causing him to miss his shot. Ralf didn't get angry ... he just picked up the cue ball and handed back to us and sat down. Despite the interference on my part, Ralf won his match (thank God). For like a year after that, every time I saw Ralf, I kept apologizing. I felt that bad about it.

That's outside interference-he should have gotten the shot over- i saw that happen w Alex at the WPC when i a little kid ran towards the table squealing just as Alex shot. The ref gave him a do-over. He took the shot a 2nd time and made it.

My worst was just using the 9 Ball as the cue ball. I thought i was probably the only one to ever do that and maybe a few weeks later- i saw a good player do the exact same thing.

That is a great story about Ralf. Some real class there.

I went over to watch a good friend of mine play in the middle of a good match in a tournament. I had brought a can of Coke with me. The chairs and counter were very close to the table. As I was sitting down in the bar height chair, the chair tilted and I slipped. I righted myself with the back of my Coke holding hand, banging the can against the counter. This caused the can to literally explode and shower the table and me with Coke spray.

I knew both of the guys well and they laughed their asses off. I was very embarrassed. The room owner, who I also knew, was very gracious about it and moved them to another table.
