How many people use a wood to wood type joint.Like a 3/8 10 pin.I start using a stainless joint when I first playing pool but once I shot with the 3/8 10 pin joint I love them. Its seems to me like the joint is more forgiving and not so suddle at the joint when hit the cue ball

Wood to Wood, 3/8X10. I am going to try a glass resin pin on my next cue.

3/8x10, 3/8x11, and 3/8x14 wood to wood joints. The hit on a wood to wood is excellent!

I use a wood to wood joint on both my u.k stinger cues and I have to say the touch and feel when playing is great I will NEVER change these cues.

Joint preference

Stainless Steel is it....wood to wood, phenolic, ivory all either come out too light or don't provide enough forward balance from what I've ever gotten my hands on. Although I like the feel and hit of ivory, it's still too light. I never had one with a weight bolt, but to heavy it up would bring the balance back to far for my liking.

I really don't care what screw...5/16x14 piloted...5/16x18 piloted or not, 3/8x10, Uni-loc....doesn't matter.

That can be fixed easily. If you want forward balance with ivory, staghorn or phenolic collar, powdered tungsten mixed with epoxy can be place right under the pin.

And what might that mixture do to alter or deaden the hit/feel?

I thought I read that someone took cues with various joints - put masking tape over the joints so no one could see what type joint it was, then had players try out each cue and say which cue had the best "hit".

As I recall there was little or no agreement on which cue had the best hit?

On my conventionally jointed cues, I have flat-faced joints with radial pins (3/8" x 7.5 tpi). On my main playing cue, I have a pure wood joint - male wooden threads integral with the shaft, into wooden female threads in the butt, ala 3C cues. Great feel! Tried this because I agreed with the builders philosophy of trying to get a hit as close to a one-piece cue as possible. The pure wood-to-wood made sense. JMHO.

Adios,

Pizza Bob
