What kind of pin is this?

Can someone identify what pin/joint this is? I need to buy a new shaft, but I'm not savvy enough to know what kind I need.

You don't suppose you could give us a hint by telling us what brand of cue this is???
I've seen the joint before but don't remember the brand.
Definitely an import though.
Actually, I may have that pin somewhere in my shop.

I've just re-finished a cue that looks suspiciously like that.

If its the same i'd say its a 3/8 x 16 BSW thread.

I just cut a cue up one with that joint to make a conversion. It had some really nice butter fly points in it. Customer told me it was a snooker cue. Looked import to me.

It's hard to say without seeing more of the cue, and there are better cue ID experts than me, but it looks like a Robinson to me.

Robinson cues are fairly collectible. I think he was out of California, and made a very good quality and playing cue.

I've built an OB shaft or two to fit them, and they came out pretty nice, but I always had a shaft to get the specs from. If I remember, it was a 5/16-18 thread.

Show us some pics of the whole cue.

I'll get more pics up in a little bit. I actually have no idea what it is. There's no branding anywhere. I think its just a cheap Filipino 4 piece that my step dad over paid for a few years ago, but I always liked it so I might as well fix it if I can get a shaft.

I just though it was weird that the shaft has the pin instead of the butt. Is that a common thing?

Also, how would I go about removing the ferrule?

KJ was right.

That cue is an import, and an older one I think.

It's a long, long way from a Robinson!

Sorry

Well, I never thought it was any kind of high end cue. I just want to fix it to have an extra cue. Any clue on the joint? It how I would find out?

If you know the thread diameter and pitch, it would be easy to make a shaft for it. You'd spend more than the cue is worth, but it wouldn't be that hard to do.

First, take it to a hardware store and see if you can find a nut that will thread down all the way on that screw. It could be standard or metric threads, so check them all. To me, it still looks like a 5/16-18, but it's most likely metric.

If that doesn't work, find someone with a good caliper and measure the diameter and the distance from one thread to another. It's more accurate to measure the distance between 10 threads, and divide by ten, or seven divided by seven, etc. With that information, you can probably figure out what thread it is, if it's a normal commercially used thread.

I hope that helps!

Take it to the Hardware store and see what nut screws on . Start with the metric, look Asian to me . Jim

Here is what your pin looks like removed from the shaft.
As far as bastard threads go, this one's a doosie.
The dia. of both threaded sections is the same @ .358"
9mm is .354". 3/8 is .375".
The pitch (threads per inch) is 16 on the threads that connect to the handle.
On the section that is glued into the shaft, the pitch is 12 TPI.
I can build a shaft for you or I can sell you this part.
On the other hand, if the shaft you currently have isn't worth saving,
you could remove the pin from it.

Perfect! It's fate!

I know a new custom shaft would be worth more than the cue, but it's got sentimental value, right?

I say go for it. What the heck!

I was wondering about removing the pin. Is it just screwed into the shaft or would there be some kind of glue with it? And can I buy a shaft with no pin? About how much could I get a shaft for? I don't need anything special, just something to make it playable again. It does have sentimental value to me, its the cue that my step dad taught me to play with.

Could anyone give me an idea of how much it would cost to have a shaft made to fit this cue? I think I already said this, but I really just need a basic shaft that will get this thing playable, nothing real fancy.

You don't say specifically what's wrong with the shaft you have,
so I'm looking at the pics and assuming it's warped. Correct???
