My new pool goal is, I want to win a trophy of some kind. I keep seeing them in people's home rooms in the post here. What type of competitions do you have to play in where they give trophies to people?

Regional tournaments or leagues. Pool isn't just gambling as many on here believe. You want to win a real trophy then do it through the various regional tours or go win in a competitive league.
+1 for tournaments, although they are getting smaller. The last one I won is about 8" tall, not the huge trophy cup kind either. Just a pool player with their cue and a blank space for the name plaque if I want to add it.
Unfortunately there is only 1 pool hall for about 220 miles in any direction here so there's no huge draw. 64 players was the max, and only if there was money added. Now 32 is hard to fill without extra money. Trophies are just your chart for the most part.

They're also great for the, "I usta could", stories. I like them personally, but they're not for everyone.
You could go to Crown Awards and buy yourself a nice one. Have it engraved.
Or you could Join the APA. They give away a ton of patches and cheap trophies.

At first I thought it was a joke because you saw the Jimmy Mataya video LOL, but if you are serious, there is no single type of tournament that will give you a trophy, I have played in leagues, normal tournaments, charity tournaments, have gotten trophies from some and not from others. Just look and see what comes up in your area. Many of the charity tournaments I played in have not had a cash prize but have handed out trophies for the winners or top two places, which I like rather than pay out cash for a fundraiser. Money should go to the fundraiser, if there are prizes they should be donated goods like a cue or a trophy.

Many leagues give trophies for teams winning division, tournaments or players winning MVP/All Star status.
I am yet to see a tournament that gives a trophy, just money. But I am yet to see a tournament that would have pro level type players in it, so you have that to contend with.

I've had more trophies than I can count...don't have a single one now.
I used to play in weekly tournaments in recreation centers on military bases just for something to do. I won so many tournaments in a row that they ran out of them. At one point they ran out and had to put them on back order when they gave me all they had and owed me 12 more.
When they finally came in, I got all 12 of them from the girl behind the counter and then walked around the rec center and gave them out to the kids who were doing other activities in the facility.
Trophies take up space and gather dust.

Just join a pool league and try to get on a winning team......

Plastic dust collectors! I have two boxes of them in the attic. The first couple of them are fun as it is usually early in your pool playing career when you get them.
Anyone remember the Grandy tournaments back in the early or mid eighties? I dogged an easy eight ball that cost me one back then. It still gives me NIGHTMARES!!
Try to find a trophy to win that has a barometer or a clock in it so it has some actual usefulness!!
