I just got my new lathe in, an Enco 12x36 bench lathe....I have already fixed a couple cues that I have bought off some AZB members here and I want some input and guidance...I made a jump cue last night out of a broken Mcdermott gunslinger cue..I am wanting to put a ring at the joint and make a buttcap for it...i also have a couple other bar cues i bought and want to put butts/rings on them as well....where is a good supplier of material for this...and what types of material could I use...I am also thinking of using antlers of various animals also...I brought back about 10 Caribou antler sets..also have a few buffalo horns, and muskox horns...I will be trying out the horns/antlers probably next week....but does anyone have any other suggestions to some material suppliers?

I bought a broken South West off someone here and I think it is going to turn out pretty nice...also bought some broken Schon and 1 broken Its George.. I will post pictures of my finished products when I get them done......

Thanks for everyones help and all your great input guys....Shawn Smith

Atlas or Prather come to mind.

i have tan, white, and black phenolic in .900x.625 and 1.25x.875 if you need phenolic as far as fiber rings,Prather or Atlas or you can also cut wood rings.if you have the right cutter, you can cut them pretty thin.

Thats what I was thinking.....what kind of cutter do I need to buy to cut really thing rings?

i use the mini-thin cut off tool with .039 insert that faces as it cuts.i think cut depth is .235 or something like that.the bit is solid carbide and is about $10 by itself, but i can cut rings .030"-.040" thin with it.

Can you post a picture of the bit and your setup? Maybe a link to the buying source?

Thanks,
Alan

MSC or Enco has them.it is made by Nikcole and called the mini-system with a carbide .039" cut off bit.

Practice with the cheap stuff. Keep the nice horns for later. Just my opinion. Get a feel for size, style and lengths.
When I see one of my first 100 cues I get frustrated. If I would of only made this shorter or that longer it would look great. I wasted a lot of expensive materials on cues I gave away. Practice with the cheap stuff.
