Was kind of curious to see what size, nickle, dime, etc, other players shape thier tips. I use a nickle shape personally, but use a quarter shape on my break-cue. I am going to use the poll for players to choose thier shape. I would like to see if any top players would also participate in this as well. Thank you all for your vote or opinions!

If anyone would like to comment on why they use a certain shape, Please give us your reasoning.

Thanks

Had to vote other in poll. My tip is a nickel that has a slight lean toward a dime. This shape works the beat for me.

Gammaray...You should have had an option for "it doesn't matter", because that's the truth. It's a subjective decision, just like which tip is best, which shaft is best, etc. As far as tip shape...round hits round...flat doesn't hit round very well. There's no such thing as a "too round" tip.

I don't think he's asking for "the best" shape , he's just curious what other poeple are using.

I use a dime and don't really know why but just have as long as I can remember. It looks 'right' to me. :)

I've always been of the belief that you shape your time to dime radius when you get it, and that's the last time you shape your tip. If you play a lot of juice (siding) then the tip will stay round. If you tend to play mostly around the centre of the ball, the tip will flatten down to a nickel radius. You should shape your tip once only. The tip will tell you, over time, what shape it should be. Never sand your tip once it's been shaped the first time. Just chalk it and maybe the odd scuff here and there if it's not holding chalk.

Oh, BTW, the best shape for a tip is ROUND. Square tips suck.

I use the Williards Tool to get the dime radius. I don't think it ends up exactly like a dime. Kind of in the middle of a dime and nickle.
The dime radius give a little more spin with less effort.

Nickel Radius. Why?

Because my style of play beats it into this shape. I'm not one to argue with fate :)

I seem to play mine into about a penny radius - I kid about it being 7 1/2 cents.
Hope you appreciate this... I lost 6 1/2 cents voting...

I start out with a nickle radius and let the tip move to where it wants to as I play with it. I do scuff my tip regularly only to rough the surface and not to change the shape.

Hello Scott Lee,

So basically what you are saying is that it won't matter if the shape of the tip is either dime, nickel, penny, as long as it is round? I was under the impression that the dime shape would put more spin on the ball then the nickel shape! Have I been in error about this? :scratchhead:

Thanks!

I use a dime because I heard that it imparts more spin and Predator also says that a dime shape tip will deflect less? I don't understand that but I like a dime anyway and it apparently has benefits.

used to use nickel now it's dime. as i have gotten better a lot of little things like that have changed. i just find now that the dime is giving me a little more spin and i finally have some skills to use it.
