What size table for this room schematic?

As most of you probably know, I have been in the market for an 8' table for a while now. Considering maybe dropping down to a 7'. What do you guys feel would be ideal for this room? I want the table back towards the sliding glass door so we can move the TV to the window seat area. Of course ideally I would like to use a full size cue most of the time.

Only issue is the odd room dimensions due to the bedroom closet on the left causing the protruding wall section.

I suggest you transfer your room drawing to scale on a piece of graph paper. Then cut out 2 rectangles using the same scale, representing 7' and 8' tables' minimum playing area requirements. Here is a link showing the sizes to use. By having separate pieces of paper representing the playing area you need, you can move them around in your room drawing to see where your problems and trade-offs will be. If you really wanted to get detailed you could cut out 2 extra playing area rectangles representing the use of shorter cues.

Lazy man's way - you can also use a pool table cover (for 7,8 or 9 foot tables) place the cover flat on the floor with the sides tucked under - that would give you a pretty good idea of how much room you have to work with. You could even borrow a cover from someone if you don't want to buy one.

Thanks but I think I like the graph paper idea Already have the living room drawn out. Now just need to cut various sizes.

Figure what maybe 6" for a back stroke added to the length of the cue? Coming off the table in each direction?

With a 44" x 88" playing area, accounting for a 58" cue with 6" back stroke I get a required 9x12'8" area for unhindered play not really accounting for corners.

Edit: I guess I could just use the numbers they give me on that page for minimum room size haha Says below it accounts for a 58" cue.

I started to post that an 8 ft would work, however that corner is going to be tight. Use the paper as mentioned and figure 5 ft out from the inside rail edge. That will give you enought room to stroke a ball frozen on the rail.

You're right, an 8ft would work but that corner is definitely tight and would require a short cue. All because of a closet full of junk!

I'm not even going to draw anything for a 7' as I won't go smaller than that. If an 8' is tight then it's either wing it and deal with the tight corner or just get a 7'

Ok here we go. The cutout is the minimum playing space for an 8' table per the link above. Drawing in middle is playing surface only 44x88, or so I hope.

Bottom shaded area is the obvious impeding wall.

Being it's a 14ft wide room and the website calls for 13'11" the edges of the cutout are lined up flush up top since that's not visible in the image.

Yeah, I was too lazy to use a straight edge.

So now, is it worth using a short cue for that portion or should I take the plunge to a 7'?

Not much better for a 7' table.

You basically want a room 10 feet longer and wider then a table for decent playability. 3 1/2 X 7 you want 13.5 X 17 as the room size, 4 X 8 you want 14 X 18. In effect this gives you 5 feet on each side which allows a level cue and some backstroke room for straight shots off the rail.
