What the heck is-liquid wick pool cue?

I'll admit that I've never seen these cues, or really care to, BUT, this type of marketing plan can work. Barney Adams made an EASY to hit fairwaywood (I know, golf, but stick w/me here) called the Tight Lies. They weren't meant for (marketed towards) the guys who could rip their current fairwaywood 250 down the middle. They were to help the guys who topped, sliced, hooked, etc. their woods, so they too could hit the ball like the better players. They were sold thru info-mercials and were a HUGE hit. Since, Adams Golf has become a bit lower tier, yet staple in the golf industry.

BTW, the guys who could hit their Callaways, Taylor Mades, Titleists, etc. said the same things about the Tight Lies that you all are saying about these cues....gimmicky, low quality, not "traditional looking" or whatever, and Adams sold TONS of Tight Lies anyways. Now, will Liquid Wick be the next Adams???? Probably not, but it COULD work if bangers (pool's hackers) think it'll help them play better (and get some of the chicks that dance around in the commercials - LOL).

Hu...There's one (sucker) born every minute...and TWO to take him! :D For those that don't know it, LiquidWick is now one of Jeanette Lee's major sponsors! They'll hit a homerun with that move, imo.

I haven't seen the advertisement but I suspect it isn't knowledgeable pool players they are trying to market to. The great PT Barnum was sure that you could get rich marketing anything to suckers, you just had to reach enough of them. I have never seen any indication he was wrong.

Don...Huh? There are LOTS of reasonable-playing cues to fill that "under $100 niche"...Player/Cue & Case Sales, Action/Cuestix, Fury/Sterling Gaming...just to name a few!

They seem to be targeted at a fairly specific niche; a good-playing cue for under $100 - a niche that is NOT currently filled.

Scott,
I should clarify my point: not currently available at the large discount stores like Walmart/K-Mart/Target.

Okiedokie...NOW we're definitely on the same page! I agree with you, that their target market is the KMart/Walmart crowd.

I am fairly certain that JL already has the new cue, and used it in Charlotte - a LiquidWick logo'ed cue made by Dave Jacoby. It has the coolest extension thingie I've EVER seen. The bottom 4 or 5 inches of the butt actually unscrews with a few twists, slides out about 5 inches on a steel rod, then screws tight in the extended position for those hard to reach shots. When she's done, just reverses the process. In a few seconds, back to normal. I HAVE to get one of those in my cue.

We can all laugh amongst ourselves at some of the corny products on the market, but cues like this one aren't meant for us. It's meant for casual and league players. Maybe they'll get better and learn that there are better cues out there and laugh at themselves one day for having something like this when they first started shooting, or maybe they'll continue to be a ballbanger and never know any better... but at least they're playing pool and that's what the industry and we, as poolplayers, need. Pool can't afford to alienate or lose potential fans and/or players.

My first cue was a wrapless metallic blue Players in a soft case and, boy, did I think it was something special :p

I just viewed all of these short 1-minute video links advertising the Liquid Wick pool cue. I don't know what to say other than watch the videos and make your own decision.

The cue might play really good. I would like to hear some reviews from someone who has actually shot with one. One cue to meet all your needs makes this cue economical and inviting to mainstream pool players who do not want to pay a bunch of money for a custom-made cue.

The ladies dancing with the Liquid Wick cue stick on stage with musical artists is an interesting advertising mechanism, one which I am sure will be quite attractive to one sector of the pool-playing audience. :D

The Bookheem Woodbine and the 13 Purple Dragons made me laugh.

I think a similar Jacoby cue was available at billiards warehouse...
I myself prefer a screw on extension like snooker or mezz cues have... I wish my Jacoby could accept one of those on the bumper or something.

Anyway, I think it is a pitty Jacoby doesn't get more publicity with Corey Deuel playing a Jacoby made "woodpecker" and Jeanette Lee a Jacoby made "Liquidwick"... Jacoby is a great cue, hopefully we all know what they are really playing with :)

"The Axis Glide has everything pro's look for in a pool cue. Superior balance for a smooth stroke, 13mm tip for solid contact, Fiberglass wrap to prevent warping, Irish linen wrap on the grip, a Sleek Black and Tan design, and a Pro Taper for shot accuracy."

THAT's what I'm missing! Fiberglass wrap!! Anyone know what the wait time for a Fiberglass wrapped Southwest shaft? I'll call Laurie and ask...
