What To Do Here?

seems like i run into this situation all the time. you pocket the 1-Ball, but the cue ball automatically is going to run into the 7-Ball and hose you. i was watching a tape of Nick Varner earlier today and he had a similar situation. when he hit the 7-Ball the announcer said he made a mistake, and i am thinking to myself "HOW???" he cant change the laws of physics, he has to hit the 7-Ball!!!

anyway, what do you posters do in a situation like this? and i am going to try and type those WEI commands in hopes this shows up embedded.

you hit that shot with high inside english and you should go 2 rails to the 2

that is if you can catch the inside of the 7

why did i know somebody would say that???

you are going to RUN INTO THE 7-BALL!!!!!!

so, therefore, what do you do?

p.s. forgive me if the diagram is off a little, but you are GOING TO HIT THE 7-BALL!!!

haha, I'm evil but when I have an almost impossible shot on my next ball, I'd do this...

By the way to make the table work... draw up your table and use the Export to Clipboard button.

Then paste (Ctrl+V) the table in your message and highlight it, and click the WEI button... poof :)

thats another impossible shot.

geez, you posters that are clueless, dont waste time posting on these, ok? i get PMs all the time from others saying to ignore 75% or more of the responses, that they dont know what they are talking about, or are just being silly and ignorant.

so, for you posters out there that are quality players, what would you do?

wow man what's up with all the hostility? i think that shot'll work still (2 rails with inside) i saw it done on an accustat and i use it every now and again myself. if you hit the top half of the 7 you'll slide off of it and the inside'll catch and take you 2 rails around for the 2 ball. i did realize you'd hit the 7. i don't consider myself clueless, and i'm sorry for wasting your time. all i wanted to do was try to help but apparently i'm too silly and ignorant so good luck with your post and i hope you figure it out and come back and enlighten us ignorant players

Not sure if I should respond after your last response, but I will give it a try anyway. By the way, I agree, the last shot proposed seemed a little dicey to me as well.

Anyway, I would try to kick the one ball up table killing the cue ball after contacting the one, using the 5 and 8 as blockers.

That is what I would try, anway.

By the look of the diagram, this was not a bad suggestion. It depends on if you are going into the 7 full or if you can glance off of it. If you can glance off it, you can do as the poster suggested.

As I indicated above, based on the diagram, I think you had an excellent suggestion.

This is how I would play it if I had to, I can not give a definitive answer given that this is not a real table, I can't judge how much of the 7 I would hit. When you said the announcer said it was a mistake hitting the 7 ball he must have been able to avoid it, it's probably not the same shot. And getting an attitude when you can't comprehend what other people are trying to tell you is just stupid, stop being a jerk. This is what the first response was saying which is what I would do as a "quality player".

Eric.

i usually try to error on the side of agression. it's just the way i like to play. especially when the game's 9 ball.

but really did that shot seem completely out of line?

DCP, even when it looks as though the cue is definitely running into another ball, with the right speed, stroke, using the entire pocket, and english, some players are able to completely avoid the collision.

That being said, if it is entirely unavoidable, using your best of all the above skills, using high right english try and hit the seven ball as thin as possible on the right side of the seven and use enough speed to try and come around the two rails.

Again, we do the best that we can with what the table gives us.

Good luck.

You can force an angle even if the tangent line takes you full in the face of the 7 ball. So why is this a stupid suggestion?

Not at all. I thought it was the right shot, as well, until he said the diagram may not be exactly right, which made me think there was no way to avoid going into the 7 full. If that is the case and you can only go into the 7 full, I would look for a safety.

I agree, if there is anyway to make the one and be in a position to get a good hit on the two, and potentially make it, I am going for it as well.

Play safe if you don't like the IE carom off the 7. Bank the one two rails use the 5 and 8 as blockers.

I have asked before how to embed the table. How do you do it?

Thanks

There is a sticky that explains it quite well, because I just followed it...lol. But I will try to explain.

Draw the diagram on the WEI table, click on the export button on the WEI table (lower right side), Hit Paste or use Control V (Control V pastes the information in) in your azbilliard response and it will past the text (URL) into the post. Highlight the URL and click on the "WEI" button, which will be at the top in your azbilliards post.

Hopefully this makes sense. The sticky explaining it is the very first sticky at the top of the main forum, I believe.

Depends partly on the calibre of your opponent but in general I hate the percentages on the option shown in this diagram. If we're going to play this layout in a cautious manner it's surely better to simply pot the 1 screwing into the 7 to stay as straight as poss on the 2 and from there then play any one of two or three much easier and better percentage safety shots.

Thanks!

Thanks JDB! I was so close to having it. I wondered what that "WEI" button was for.
