Standard wood shaft by Rick Howard.

I use the PBK2 for breaking and sometimes the new x-breaker (I like the BK2 better for breaking though- hard to beat that).

Just ordered a new Diveney with a lake salvage shaft. Interested to see how it turns out.

I have two of those from Pat, very reasonable in price also. I have seen other cue makers charge up to $350 for a shaft. You'll like it if you like stiff shafts. IMO it's a great shaft.

I used to play with a Predator cue, so for a while, I had used a Predator shaft. I then purchased a Rick Howard cue, and since that is no small investment, I decided I would at least try to play with the standard shaft.

Being Predator programmed, even 6 months in, I'm still not totally in tune with it. But it's not terribly difficult. It did help that one of the two shafts was actually about 12.5 mm instead of the full 13 mm like the other.

You put Arnot's shaft on the list but left out the Universal Smart Shaft? Put four votes in for the USS: Me, Koop, Bill Stroud, and Thorsten Hohmann.

The USS does play great but I'm not sure that I like it more than I would like any other very stiff shaft (God that sounds bad, stop giggling!). My favorite shaft of all is a 24 year old Schon shaft that is currently tipless. My USS is a close 2nd, though.

I tried a Predator shaft for about a week and I gave up on it and about a year later a friend of mine talked me into trying a 314 shaft again. I kept hearing him tell me about the difference in deflection between his standard shaft versus his predator and I decided maybe I should give the 314 another try. This time I put some time into learning to use the shaft with some tips from my friend and after I finally adjusted to it I don't think i'd want to switch back to a regular shaft. I think it's what you get used to as far as what you prefer in a shaft for your cue. If a player doesn't fully understand deflection then they may not like a predator because there are shots that the predator shaft doesn't hit as well as a standard shaft IMO, but the overall advantage of being able to aim where you want the cue ball to go is worth the slight disadvantage to me.

shaft

Well, I play with a DZ cue usually, so I use his normal shafts that come with his cues. I like his taper, and I prefer these shafts over Predator shafts which I've had multiple of. The original shafts just feel better to me, and don't get as much "spin" as predator shafts do...And I like to use as little "spin" as possible in my game. This is only MY preference here, take it for what its worth. IMO, the shaft on my Shurtz cue is better than a predator shaft aslo, so maybe I just don't like predator shafts? Gimme a normal wooden shaft over one of those "low deflection" shafts any day!

Most of my shafts are standard maple wood. I was just wondering what most AZers use for their playing cue and wanted to compare our poll with some other shaft manufacturers claims.
Thanks,

I mainly shoot with my standard factory Mc Dermott shaft. However I have an OB 1 which I just purchased recently but have not shot that much with it.

You're right, Cory. I knew I forgot an important shaft and I guess because I don't see or hear of too many of them down here in New Orleans, I couldn't think of the name. The Universal Smart Shaft deserves to be on the list but I don't think I can edit the poll. :(

Universal Smart shaft

We're getting some really nice numbers of posters voting on the types of shafts that they use.

This is very interesting.

I hope everyone continues voting so that we get a good overall consensus of what everyone is using.

Sorry about not including some of the shafts that some of you guys and gals use but there are only 10 available options on a poll. I guess I should have left out Meucci red dot.

If your REGULAR playing shaft isn't listed, please add make a post and name it.

THANKS!.
JoeyA

I have a Universal Smart shaft.

I selected a maple shaft, since you didn't have the Universal Smart Shaft listed. I prefer a USS(RS) weighing over 4 ounces though. Just my personal preference.
