What would you do here??

I see these types of posts a lot and have always had an idea or two. On this one I see a couple of risky carom/combo shots on the 2 - 9, but if I thought I could get shape on the 3 after shooting the 2, I would try to run them out and probably hang the 9.

Shoot the 2 and bump the 4/6,you would have to get a bad roll not to see the 3,I should say bump the 6

Well, this is what I see - it's very risky, and honestly, I'm not 100% confident that I could it, but I'd probably give it a try:

It all depends on exactly how the 2-4-6 were laying and how exactly I'd run into them. If possible, I'd hit the 2 firm with some follow, so the immediate "stun" bounced over to knock the 6 out, the follow would (hopefully) carry the CB down to just passed the 9. From there, it's a fairly standard layout. Depending on how I ended up after the 5, the 6 to the 7 might change (I tend to either really under-hit or over-hit those shots); but the important thing to get above the 7 for natural position on the 8.

No idea if this will really work, so I'll print this out and give it a try sometime. I have a feeling I'll get stuck in the 4-6 cluster more often than I want - but that's because I can't always execute what I can see.

You might also be able to cheat the pocket on the 2 and try and bump the backside of the 6, like this:

But, again, I'm not sure how it would actually play out.

Instead of messing around with the 4/6 cluster, why not play the 2 in the bottom left corner with a little top to come off the top rail and possibly the bottom rail to play the 3 in the top left corner with a bit of top to play the 4 in the top side. From here I believe the rack runs itself.

What do you think? The 2 is a little harder shot but I think the position is more "natural"

This was my initial thought when looking at the table. But then I thought that there must be something far more clever than what I had envisioned, else why put it on here?

Doing it this way might create some back and forth, forth and back shots, but it looks reasonable to me. Which means I must be wrong! :p

Looking forward to "the answer". Thanks for the thread, Neil.

ah, well... the my 2nd post is an option - maybe. or, taking what Poolfiend said, but instead of trying navigate around all that traffic, maybe just putting a good draw stroke on the 2 to bounce off the rail and across the table for the 3?

I see no problem bumping the 6,if you don't come up with a shot on the 3 you bank the 3 up table putting the cb behind the 5 or 8,there is no guarantee out here,if you get a good roll yes if not you will be playing safe. The back cut on the 2 is tough ,is the 4 suppose to pass in the side?I thought that was part the problem

it's a pretty thin cut on the 2 to the lower left corner... with top - wont the cue run into the 5 (or come close)?

I was thinking only about a half tip, looking at it closer, center to about a tip low would probably be better.

It's difficult to assess a super tight squeeze on Wei, but I'm thinking you could slow roll the 2 into the upper corner and get on the 3, without the CB hitting the 6 or the rail. From there, it's child's play, assuming the 4 goes into the upper side.

KK9 <-- self-professed slow rollin SOB

I would love to see everyone's suggestions on youtube or something.. post multiple attempts to see how hard/easy they are/were and how successful they were. Since Neil posts these almost once a week, this could be a weekly video challenge kind of thing. lol

Right ,if the 4 passes,I was assuming not

Please tell me you didn't carom the 2 off the 9 into the top left corner and probably dropped the 9. :D
