What your choice for a Veeneered Full Spliced Blank

I think it's more important who does the conversion rather than which of these two made the blank, both Davis and Prather make a quality blank.

Why?

Respectfully, your question would be better asked in the wanted for sale section, for proper attention, I don't know any Cue makers who would answer this, Most of us get along and we like it that way. I didn't want to answer just to add to my post numbers,

With all due respect to the wonderful Prather people, I'd prefer a Davis blank because of the quality and color vibrancy of the euro sycamore and/or hard maple veneers he uses. John also has some extra extra good birdseye right now if you're thinking of a blank made with that wood.

I would use nothing but a Brunswick 26 1/2 or a Titlist cues, in my opinion there is nothing better.

Hey Craig, I've heard/ seen the glue giving way on some of the Titlist blanks of yesteryear. Does this seem to happen more with Titlists or Carom Kings of any particular time period, or do you attribute this to isolated operator error--like not enough glue or not evenly applied? In a side by side comparison I've noticed a difference in point length in cues from different eras and also veneer vibrancy. We all know that you are hoarding hundreds of vintage Brunswick cues, and that alone has driven the prices through the roof! :D

I would go with a select macassar back and a Jazznpool AAAAAAAAA+ piece of bird on the nose and throw in some titlist style vens for a little added color. Sharp points on both ends of splice and some top quality 3.95 oz shafts for the business side of the piece.
Make it come in under 19.8.......and it would be a spectacular piece most would love to have.

Hello Martin, you are certainly right and about me trying to drive the price of the old Brunswick cues up:thumbup: , currently I have accumulated around 350 of them. When I buy these cues I separate them by condition of the splice and by the condition of handle wood.

The only old Brunswick's I see with problems normally show some form of moisture damage. The glues used were organic based in most cases they were made from Horses. These type of adhesives were not water resistant in any way, in fact they would dissolve if exposed to a moist environment, this environment could be an attic, a basement, a garage, or old barn were many of these old cues were stored.

Martin, I think the Brunswick splices from the simple house cue to the Veneered point and Butterfly splices were very sound do to being True Full Splice blanks and remain so to this day if they were stored in a dry environment.

Oh and by the way, I also have a pile of unacceptable cues that number around an additional 100. Even these however, still serve a purpose, I will cut the bad sections out and turn the remaining for ring billets blanks, or I will core and use the wood in butt sleeves so nothing is wasted. I mean how many people build their rings and butt sleeves out of 100 year old base wood, the environmentalist would love me, because this is recycling at it's best.!!!!!!!:D

I hope this helps, I know many may not agree, however I have seen allot of these cues and this is the conclusion I have come to.

Take care
