Wow you must be some kind of asshole to make a post like this considering the seriousness of Richard's illness. Way inappropriate even if you are kidding.......

You know, given the circumstances, this is hugely in poor taste!

Below is the body of the last email I received from Richard Chen, back in June of 2007:

Dear friends,

In late May, I was informed by my doctor that they have found a tumor in my liver. A surgery was performed in June to have this tumor removed. More tests and procedures will have to follow. Your prayers will be greatly appreciated.

It is no longer possible for me to build or market X Breaker due to my health. I really wish to spend as much time as I can with my new born daughter, my wife, and my families.

I want to send this email to thank you all for your support, understanding, and patience, over the years.

Regards,
Richard

From the gist of this email, it sounded as if his prognosis was not good. I hope I am wrong.

see him in the fall.

Nice job Dave. Not only were that douche-bag's comments in extremely poor taste in general, but Richard was without a doubt one of the nicest guys I've ever met in the cue biz.

He smiled so much and was always so happy, I thought he might be insane at first. The more I got to know him, the more I realized that Richard just plain loves life. Every aspect of it.

Not too many people that you can say that about.

With the comments made in this thread the fall will be to soon !!

It will either be the end of him or an opportunity to learn and progress.

His choice

i thought he was crazy too bc he dressed odd but he is a great guy

I met Richard a couple of years ago at the BCA tourney in Vegas. He was coming out with his new line of XBreakers. I ended up buying one of his curly maple with purpleheart handles. He was concerned about how everything felt and for the most part EXTREMELY customer oriented. I was very impressed at how sincere he really is? Overall great person.

I was extremely saddened to hear of his ill health and my prayers are with him and hopefully he will fully recover. I understand things must be bad though because he or a relative is selling off stuff from his shop on ebay occasionally. I in fact did pick up one of his XJumpers this way. He was starting to sell these when he became ill and stopped building cues, etc.

i first met Richard at th us open he was a vendor and setup next to me in the rotunda area ,He came over and said hi and asked me about some display racks we had just made he had 2 dozen cues and know display .
well now he did i gave him one he was so glade later in the show he gave me a cue i told him i didn't want it he gave it my worker when i went to eat . he wouldn't take it back, so our friendship started there even though we were not super close i always liked Richard i remember when i started years ago other vendors never helped anyone so i have always tried to help new people we did several shows together Richard was always gentleman and very nice to me what ever happens ill never forget him
god bless him and his family get better soon...lee

ps :as for your coment my friend all i can say is your way out of line
you desevre whatever you get.

liver cancer is not unlike pancreatic cancer in that the mortality rates in both are absolute. Unfortunately, both diseases are almost always diagnosed after the cancer has hopelessly spread because there is generally no manifestation of symptoms. The lucky ones turn jaundiced (yellow), and all this does is give the patient a symptom which often leads to early diagnosis. In any case, it still only allows the patient more time to get his affairs in order.

Pancreatic cancer at MOST (in every case) can yield 5 years, although the average is 9 MONTHS AFTER DIAGNOSIS. Liver cancer is much the same, but usually takes longer and in just about all instances will matastacize (sp?) to other organs, especially the stomach. Unfortunately, the nature of these diseases make it impossible for these patients to be considered for transplants.

Its been 10 months since Richard put the word out. Has anyone heard from him? Medical statistics reveal that it is more than possible that he is no longer with us..............

Damn Randy, thats some brutal stats. :(

I love my Xbreaker and still prefer it over all the other b/jumps i have tried including the predator bk2 and this Mike Bender B/J that sits in my closet now.
