whats going on in olathe

i heard snoop dog was out there and he went for 7500 .they say he plays jam up! who would have guessed?:eek:
 
ha,no really i havent heard anything as of yet.i hear buddy had to withdraw due to a family emergency and i hope as is well.

Considering the gathering of players in Olathe, I'm a little surprised there hasn't been more side matchup action reported. Was there not a lot of action outside the tourney? Did Corey & SVB ever match up?
 
I think in this case, the tournament took priority. They were betting three dimes trying to make 22K. Now that's a big bet in anyone's book.

I can't see any of these players getting into a set for a thousand or two when they were still involved in the tournament. I have a feeling after the matches, they wanted to go to their rooms and rest.

I agree completely that the 3 dime entry alone was a big bet. I just thought as players were eliminated, more side action might start up between eliminated players. Although maybe they just became spectators, it sounds like there was some great pool to be watched in the tourney.

Does anyone else see the trend of higher and higher betting reducing the number of games being played? Its as if every has to play a $10k set now to be considered "legit"...and a $1k set is considered pre-tourney warm-up. With the higher stakes comes more detailed, longer negotiations, which results in fewer matches. There may be the same amount of $$$ in action, just spread among fewer games.

Five years ago, a big game was $2-3k/game 1P and $250-500/game 9B at Shooters. Now, the negotiations are starting at $5-10k a set.

Those are still big games. $500 a game 9-Ball or $3,000 a game One Pocket is a serious bet in my book.
 
$500 9 ball and 3k dollar one pocket action is very strong! getting it outta the mud i call it.most players like the long ahead sets because in theory the better is supposed to win.
 
I agree guys...those are still serious bets. Its just that I don't hear of as many $100-200 9B matchups any more...say compared to 5 years ago.

All those guys are in Olathe right now and you only hear of 1 maybe 2 matchups a night between the "contenders". Back when the Camel Tour came to Shooters, there were matchups going all day and night. The Action report gave a synopsis of action in the room last night and it went something like..."looking around the room...billy's in action with brian jones...looking around the room...looking around the room...well that's it."
 
10k game

the one pocket was great, the jose and gabe match had a zillion safteys. the 10 ball in my opinion was o.k. but the 10k cash race to 7 was great. it turned into a 20k race to 7. one player is on the hill with the 6 ball straight in, about a 3 to 3 1/2 foot shot on a bar box. the 6 was about half way between the corner pocket and side pocket 4 to 5 inches away from rail.. cue ball on other end about same position. the 7 gone, 8 in the corner pocket with the 9 close to the rail about halfway between each corner pocket. shoot it, stop it, shoot it, stop it, shoot the 9 for the set, and this great player misses the 6 and ends up losing the set. one set is 6 to 3 the player with 3 wins 4 in a row to take the set. i dont remember if this was one of the 10k or 20k sets. when the first night was over one player was 30k ahead. they played again the next day but, i do not know what the outcome was 2nd day. i saw some players that i had not seen in 15 to 20 years. i gotta get out more. they are having another big tournament this fall, and i plan to be there. chuck
