There's a shortstop in the Windy City that on more than one occasion offered me the breaks, the 3 out, and ball in hand after the break even if I didn't pot a ball... in a race to 7 for 50 jelly beans...

How about you?

That aint no short stop

Play him and see. Anyone offering a spot like that is definately a lion heart!
Nick :)

Hmmmmmmmmmmm,

Well one time at pool camp. A guy did offer me the break, the 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 balls as money balls. His money balls would only be the 5 ball and the 9 ball. I just took petty on him and played him straight up and lost my shirt.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd play anybody in the world with that weight an they can bet real money not a little money a lot of money!

uhm...what he said.

> Jack Hines offered me the 5 and the break, not the 5-out,just the 5 and the break,on a night when I had 60 bucks on me,minimum bet was 100 a set. If the cash had been available,I'd have added 2 zeros. I can't believe anyone can give me a spot like this until I experience it,and if I took a spot like this and lost,I'd want to set myself on fire, because it couldn't be any worse. Tommy D.

About 1985, a guy offered me the 6 out. I said I'll take the 6 out and the snaps. He said, no snaps, but I had the 5 out and had to bet a 100 a game.

I said El Paso.

His name was Efren.

6,7, and 8 w/ alternate breaks..... was best I could ever haggle.
Where did you find someone who will give the spot you said? And surely you have taken him up on it? Ball in hand with the 3 out and the breaks is a suicide move........ is he betting on his opponents letting Benji out of the cage or what?
Chuck

that spot is crazy.....with BIH after the break, pot or not playing to the 3... hmmm... sounds like a set up bet.... he'll fill your pockets a little bit then plan on changing up spots later once your hooked in "gamble mode"...

when I first started a guy said all I had to do was make 2 balls in a row to win, playing 9 and ball he got the break, I beat him 11-0 for $50, i had only been playing for maybe a month.

10 years later I played him even for $50 one set he had to go he beat me 9-7 heads up. we agreed to one set before we started.

we played inbetween those to games a few times each time I got less weight, and we played alot of ring games together so he knewhow I played.

nice guy i miss him.

You want a tail between the legs confession?

I once accepted 80 to 100 spot and lost 100 to minus 3! in 3 innings!:)

didn't matter, the guy was my mentor and often offered 80 no count to good players!:)

I think it's important to note the size of the spot is directly related to the level of competition.

For example, I played race to five, and was getting the breaks, five and seven balls, and a game on the wire, and didn't have a snowballs chance.:o

Luis Viera once offered to play me 9-ball, one-handed, for $200 a game, and for years I was ashamed to admit that I ducked him. But after all, he had been clocking me for days, and I found out years later that he's one of the best one-armed bandits around.

Edit: I'd like to see him give it to me now, though.

20 to five in one pocket by A past Derby city bank champ... I won one game outa 11.. It was like the story Freddy told about Nick VArner and Artie.. My freind said you cant win.. I said I cant quit Im learning to much..

Biggest spots

Mine aren't going to be very impressive, but:

I got the 6 ball from Gabe one time for $100 a set. His break was working, mine wasn't, and I pulled up after 2 sets.

I got 3 games on the wire going to 9, won a bag of sand with that one.

Other than that, the 7 is all I have been offered, which is no spot when playing a run out artist.

Many years ago in Shreveport, Buddy gave me the 8 and HE played odft handed.

I was crushed when I won nary a set. I darn near gave up pool over that episode.

John Floyd who goes to DCC every year offered me 10-5 for whatever
I wanted to play for in his home pool room. ( I never play there).
I chose $20 a game & he come out a little ahead of me. Sad, huh?

He's definitely a short stop, isn't a full time player, has a family and kids. I seriously doubt he'd give me that spot anymore, and I told him he was crazy to give it to me, that I'd take everything he had, and so on, and that I don't play pool to take people's money, I play because I love it. We've never played.

Some other players, and I mean players, came up to me telling me they'd stake me with that spot against him. I've no doubt I'd clean him out, but I'm not that sort of guy.

I actually asked him for a smaller spot in a race to 7 for 10 jellybeans, but he didn't want to do it. Probably has something to do with the jellybeans not being enough to get him to bear down, and he knows that for 10 I won't really feel any pressure at all, which he wants to make sure I feel.

Doesn't look like we're going to play, except in a tournament.

Playing one pocket, my opponent racked the balls outside of my pocket, playing 8-8 even, my break. It was very intimidating. However, with this player I'd probably loose if I don't get 8 balls right after the break. This was maybe 6-7 years ago..
