Whats the deal with Micarta ferulles?

Here is a slab I've had for a long time, it's 9 1/2 x 5 x 1 1/8.

Well burnished tip and blued wood and apparently pretty old.
Why would tooling still be visible?

I think these are laminations.

I didn't have time to read the entire thread but from what I did read there is a question whether the previous photo's were laminations or tooling marks. They are laminations.

As far as cutting sheet stock so that the lamination are running the wrong way: when turned round and not fully sanded out, they would look like the photo above. If that ferrule was sanded down and finished off with say 600 or so, you would not see the laminations. Here is photo of similar stock in square form:

I read this thread and it left me scratching my head. To many opinions and misinformation and speculation. Thank you for shedding light on what those marks actually are. It is refreshing to read something so straight forward without speculation and factual. Thanks Joe!
