What's the funniest thing to happen when you were shooting with a cue you made?

A few weeks ago I was shooting with the first Ragu cue I made and waiting for someone to ask me who the maker was. Just got me to thinking you-all must have some funny stories.

I was in a bar, with my team on a league night. This drunk motions me over & wants to look at my cue. "Oh, you got one of those, with the black heart on it. You know the guy that made those died." I explained to him that I was the guy that makes BLACK HEART cues. "No, I'm talkin' about the original guy". I told him that I am the only one making BLACK HEART cues, since I started in 1986. He could not be convinced & said if I could get a hold of some of those cues, they would be worth a lot of money. Everybody in the place thought it was hellarious...JER

Thanks for sharing. Those are the kinda stories I was looking for.

My cues look like fishing rods and all are unique. I was playing in the Hungarian club one night. I was on the 8 ball and this big guy come up to me and said, what the hell do you think you are doing. I say I am about to play the 8 ball. He grabs my cue and says forcfully not with my friends cue you are not.
Lucky for me , the lady who had one of my cues comes over carrying her cue and said leave him alone. He made my cue and that one is his.
God knows what would have happen if she wasn't there. He appologised for his behaviour.
His friend bought a cue from me about 3 months latter but ordered that night.

So Blackheart, may he rest in piece, and Conetip are the only ones with a funny story?

Once upon a time in a galaxy far far away.................I stupidly made a cue using spalted maple without coring it. The cue was very pretty and played pretty well. I used it for my player. One evening I was in my pool room shooting a few balls and talking with a friend. I leaned the cue on the table as conversation became more important than me knocking a few balls around. We were both leaning on the table deep into the story and I turned and knocked my cue on the floor. I turned and picked up the cue. I wish I had a picture of my face when I realized I only had the butt up to about 2 inches from the joint. The rest of the cue was still on the (carpeted) floor. It broke without a splinter. I repaired it and still have it as a reminder to CORE, CORE, CORE.

I was playing in a tournament and sold the cue I brought to play with. It was the only cue I had with me though and I told the guy I would give it to him after the tournament. Well he decides to leave a few days early and comes over to me in the middle of a match and wants the cue so he can leave. He could not even wait a half hour because he changed his reservation and had to go right now. He left me standing in the arena with no cue. I had to borrow a cue from one of the spectators to finish the match.

I had something similar happen with a guy I was playing. I was beating this guy pretty good and he was getting mad. He all of a sudden starts saying, "I can't beat you but I have a friend who will play me for what ever I want to play for", and he keeps up the woofing. I asked him who this friend was figuring there probably isn't anyone he would know that I don't know in the area and he tells me. I start bad mouthing his friend telling him that bum can't play and won't bet anything. Go get him I'll play him some. We finish playing and he leaves and everybody starts laughing. His supposed surrogate player friend whose name he was dropping was me.

I did something very similar at a regional BCA tournament. We were deep in the team matches, and some guy that just HAD to have my playing cue showed up right in the middle of a game wanting the cue. I handed it to him, and yanked a sneaky pete out of my case and finished the tourney with it.
My team mates still tell that story every once in a while.... :D

funny stories

Beat two road players one night out of $300 ($50 sessions of 9-Ball) with a cue I was building for a customer. The individual pieces of the cue were not glued together and most of the joint surfaces were not even with each other. Heck even the stainless joint collar wasn't glued on. The tip, ferrule and front of the shaft were turned and polished but everything else on the cue was raw. There was a wrap recess but no wrap on the cue too. I even showed it to the HUSTLERS and took it apart in front of them.
I'm an old man mind you and they couldn't believe their eyes.
