I think pool reality has great potential.

The constant flow of characters who make up the tapestry of our billiard community is astonishing. I believe that the 'reality' or documentary presentation of pool in this modern age is not just a necessity for historical preservation of the sport but also an inevitability.

Angel Levine caught onto this fact and began recording her own footage over 5 years ago. She has hundreds, if not thousands of hours.

At the time of the 'IPT', a project called 'Ball-Breakers' came out, which was a pretty cool game show where players had to play for the cash, while barking at each other. The show was cancelled after the 2nd season, I believe.

In 2009, I think, Jay Helfert, along with Morro Peaz and some other top players did a demo reel of a show, which was basically a ring game. Andy Chen was involved on the crew as well, and it was shot at Hollywood Billiards.

Recently, Dave Thompson with another partner, went to DCC and did some sort of documentary, which I think is still on the chopping block, looking for funds to finish production.

And... In the past 2 years, there have been major talks about reality shows for pool. I believe the studios or networks are getting very serious about it now. There are, I think 4 or possibly 5 major projects working in the U.S., which are being developed by networks. That means real television distribution potential.

Be that as it may, please understand one thing. Show's come and go... Industries ebb and flow. We very well may see another 'boom' in the pool world very soon, which will be good for our industry. I'm sure that whatever gets picked up for distribution will be well marketed and well thought out by the networks (let's hope).

In the meantime... The indies and the hacks like myself will keep on trudging.

When the set is over, I'll still flip the coin!

I'm old enough to have seen a lot of the ups and downs of pool. After WW2, The Hustler, COM, to name a few good pops pool got over the years. If one of these shows makes it to TV and is any sort of hit, somebody or some group better be in place to take advantage of it. Leaving it up to itself to grow or leaving it to the BCA to do anything is a joke. The billiards industry let the two big pool movies fire dwindle out. The only ones that did try to keep pool growing in that time frame was Brunswick. But the soon as the family push didn't work, they or someone else should have tried to take it in another direction. Tell Grey it should be there for New Years Day.

We have a really good response from the documentary.....the major reason we put so much money into producing it was to get a producer we've been talking to interested in pool. It's the classic "cart before the horse" scenario, they won't find pool interesting until we show them something interesting ABOUT pool.

The Million Dollar Challenge Documentary is about THE most interesting thing in the history of pool (imho).....and now we finally have a way to get it on the "Big Screen" again.

Your DVD is being shipped out, Bud, sorry for the delay, we were swamped earlier in the week. Tell Grey it should be there for New Years Day.

I can't wait for that one, heard about it a couple of months ago or so.....

The producers spoke to Keith via phone and e-mail. I have a flyer about it, but I'm not sure if I should post it up, since it's not released quite yet. It definitely has the photos of Scott Frost, Raj Hundall, LilJon, and Billy Incardona. I believe some the film footage was done in California. :)

Back when I was younger, we only had four TV channels. Hard to believe. :embarrassed2:

With the hundreds of cable channels available today, there is a plethora of avenues that a pool documentary or reality show can tap.

IPT sold their pool package to a brand-new Versus cable channel. They hired an agent and had a team of experts to not only produce the film coverage of the events, but had an entire professional camera crew. It failed to make it on TV. So all the money in the world ain't going to make pool popular, I guess is the lesson learned here.

With Honey Boo Boo and Lizard Lick Towing and Amish Mafia reality shows, the right pool reality will sell if done correctly.

There are sevearl reality pool films in progress at the time of this writing. Getting one of those hundreds of cable channels to bite, well, that's the first step to selling it, I guess. It's definitely doable. Whether it makes it or not, that's the $64,000 question.

You have Angel Levine's "Raising The Hustler," Blair Thein's "She Sharks" and "Pool, Poker, and MMA," and the one I described above with Liljon, Frost, Raj, and Billy. So there are some cool pool happenings in the making. I hope one of them catches on. If done correctly, it could be the agent to effect a change for the better in the American pool world.

Thanks-i know of all those shows but no network involvement has been shown in any of them to my knowledge. That was my only question really. As an aside-I never thought Versus bought anything-Thought KT paid them to air it just as he paid the 'attractive people' to sit in the stands.
