What's the odds of the next Blue Book coming out?

I would say the odds are real good. My guess would be 2012 or 2013. He probably would rather have the cue market come back alittle instead of making everyone mad that their cues going down in used value.

You wish you could get $500 more.

my guess is Dave could get more than that if he wanted. Already high end without a doubt. Though I heard a rumor he is working more with the new faster internet service he has, and may flood the market :D

Why not ask Brad Simpson ( The Author of the Blue Book of Cues ) he is a forum member, I suspect he could tell you when the next edition is coming out.

Take Care Joey:)

that's the best solution..Now i know that Brad is forums member also..:)

The values is the blue book are outdated and worthless. Some makers info wasn't updated from book to book and they was years years. Other then pictures and the brief history I don't trust much info. Fwiw.

Actually no one realizes how big an issue putting prices on cues in a book really is.

Collectors won't let their EGO's and checkbook take a hit... Rambow section in BB3 great example.

Dealers put prices that they would like to SEE the cues sell at....

Cuemakers well, lets just say even out of the shop and true market prices differ.. (never ask a cuemaker how good their OWN secondary market is)

It's really a balancing act that Brad pulls off but there needs to be a better way. Anonymous input to a passworded database? Something better than there is has to be tried.

A lot of issues.. lets say cuemaker XXX was really low and now his cues take off. Then the BB is doing that cuemaker a disservice with pricing from when the book was written. Pricing can be very difficult with collectibles in a volitile market. That is why sportscard guides are monthly.

I know Brad has a tough job. All he has to do is ask me and I'll send him a list of what I sold and what I got for it. To the penny, if it helps make the BB a better source of info.

Good advice, I bought a copy directly from him via This forum the last time, and gave it to My dad. He signed & personalized It to Him for me, and It made nice gift. I think that was in 2005. Since My Dad passed away I now have the book in My possession. I also have the previous version of the book. But anyway, point being He was very easy to get in touch with.

You are correct the market is very volatile. I use to deal in sportscards many years ago, in fact It partially helped finance some of My cue equipment. I had to Buy a beckett each month, and those guides only covered individual sports, so each month I had to purchase one for each sport. Even then, I only used them as a base reference, and usually only sold at half BV, but I moved a lot of cards at those prices.

I asked Brad a while back, he said he will be doing one as the "3rd edition is getting old". Problem is he publishes other books as well that make better $$$ if he can sell 30,000 of a different book and only 5,000 of the blue book of cues for the same effort he is making 6 times less money-these numbers are a guess i used to make a point.

However Brad loves pool and since he does have a good reputation for his previous blue books he is aware that he is the right guy to do it and out of his passion for cues he will infact make it happen, i suspect 1-2 years. I offered some of my time for free on some cues and to contact people to "pitch in" and organize a team of people who know certain cue makers better than others to compiling the info for the book would go quick, especially since were all on line.

It will happen. Until then use the 3rd and AZB/Ebay as a current market guide. Blue books are old school anyway more since the internet came along. A blue book thats just a website is posible as well.

best

I hope I have something to do with it, I wont write because i'm not good enough, but I can get help round up the cue makers/writers/ ideas etc Brad said I could. I would do it for free, I know the collectors for pics, I have a couple interesting cues for pics, Chris Tate has old stuff I can talk to him etc. I'm not capable of gettingthe book ready for the presses but i sure could and will do what ever I can to help. I know the market price on some cues. Now with the CNC worl the level of the cues is a bit dated and There needs to be discussion among smart people like the guys on cuezilla.com to perhaps redefine the levels of cues, or not have levels apply to all cues.

I see it as a much more complex undertaking than before, the difference between 1 to 3 is huge and that what 4 will end up being-A huge collaboration of alot of smart people in the biz, hobbie, builders etc. Its all Brads call he is the boss-just to be helping would be one heck of a honor for me. I aint the captian of the ship.

When Brad came to visit a couple months ago, we talked about the 4th book. He said there would certainly be another, but it is just a matter of timing. From the things he said, I am guessing it ain't gonna be anytime real soon. I'm sure if some collaborative efforts were made from the right people to kick start this, it might go along faster.
