What's the rule on this 8-ball shot?

Sorry brazz, you lose. 8's gotta go clean, everyone knows that. Also all scratches behind the line,
scratch on the break is instant lose, you get 3 spacers per rack if your cue ball is stuck on the rail.
Also loser has to have quarters ready to buy the next game, If you jump you have to call "Skill shot"
before you scoop the cue ball into the air, or else it's just a lucky accident.

If you hit the other ball with a Skill Shot, you get to shoot again. If you jump a ball off the table
the other guy gets to spot it wherever he wants. If the opponent calls "Shark" you have to freeze
for the rest of the shot or he can remove one of his balls.

This is what all touring pros use in america and europe including at the masters and world playoffs!

This gets my vote for best post so far:rotflmao1:
One thing I do to often get friends to play for a couple $$$ because somehow they think I am better and will automatically win (iI wish) is offer them BIH if I scratch, they think its a big advantage.

Sadly, I often play in bars where "clean" calls are required. No bumps off an opponent's balls are allowed unless called before the shot. If the ball might touch on the way in you have to call it either touching or not touching on the way ... there is no middle ground. Hence, the question about your 8 ball shot. Although honestly, in the places I play, you can not touch/carom/billiard on an opponent's ball even with a call when shooting the 8... it always has to be clean.

Bar rules are crazy, yo! At least you didn't have to play "last shot is always opposite hand and one foot has to be in the air" rules.

I agree, bars rules are crazy but FUN!!
Been playing in bars for years. The rules are the "Bars" rules not any pool organization's rules.
Most bars play "call pocket on the eight" and some play call pocket on everyball.
Some bars play "call shot on every ball" this means you have to call all combinatios/caroms or anything else that happens when pocketing a ball.
I've played in a couple of bars that played the "hard eight rule" this rule means that after you pocket all of your designated strips/solids, you have contact the eight with the cue ball or you lose.
Never played where brushing a bank was a foul.

Well you sure haven't played bar rules enough then. :)

Many even play call shot that includes the rail. ie You shoot down the rail to the corner and if the OB rubs the rail on the way down, it's a bank.

Only been playing in more bars than, I can remember, for last 50 yrs. Haven't run into the rub rule yet but, there's always tomorrow.

Can this disagreement be settled? I was shooting on the 8 ball and called the corner pocket. Just to the side of the pocket was my opponent's ball. Two possibilities loomed; Either make a clean shot in the pocket or clip the opponent's ball with the 8 ball on it's way into the pocket. My opponent says if I clip his ball it's a foul even if I call the clip and make the shot. I say it's not a foul as long as the pocket is called. I say the 8 ball in the pocket off his ball is legal even if I don't call the shot off his ball. If it is a foul and illegal, what's the penalty? The BCA rules I saw states "A combination shot can never be used to legally pocket the 8-ball, except when the 8-ball is the first ball contacted in the shot sequence". This seems pretty clear to me. Other 8-ball rules I looked at were a bit vague on this or not addressed at all. As it turned out, I made a clean shot into the pocket. Are there varying opinions on this?

Your opponent is an idiot

Yeah, I got into an argument with a guy first time that happened. Then took it in stride, kept playing and busted him.

Once you know the rules, it isn't hard to beat guys that play under these rules. I especially love the "no ball on hand" rules. So the guy moves the ball about 6 inches, no rail and leaves you a bank. Ha ha.

Had the 8 ball in the corner thing happen to me in Ohio. Clipped the ball going in and the tournament director said it had to go clean. You learn fast when playing different areas.
