What's Your AZ Perceived Top 10??

Tough to say because I don't know everyone here but from who I have seen play or heard about their game, here's my short list.

Jimmy Mendoza- His game has sky-rocketed in the last 10 years and if it
weren't for his job and family, he would be one of the top
players on any tour.

Oscar Dominguez- This kid was destined to be a great player and is probably
only a couple of years from being one of the best.

Shane (S.D. Kid)- Never seen him play in person but from what I saw on BCn
against Keith at last years U.S. Open and from what I've
read in the recent past, not too many players are going
to like it within the next year.

I think there are too many to list but these three really stand out in my opinion. Their games are just so solid, focused, and they're all young. I see big things in their future as far as pool is concerned. Peace, John.
i like Shane's game...but one would probably consider him a pro now.....(I am from SD so a little bais).....on a non pro level it is too hard to tell who the top 10 is with out knowing who some of the posters are as well as what game one is playing...8-ball and 9-ball are much different as well as other games and table sizes.....

OK, here goes (sorry Colin and spadevil, IPTers are off the list!):

1. Blackjack
2. Craig
3. Gerry
4. Jimmy M
5. John Barton
6. Jude
7. Rod
8. Rude Dog
9. SJM
10. ??

Since I think lists are exclusionary by nature, I will leave off #10 and say that that spot belongs to all those I'm temporarily forgetting. :)

I'd love to spend a day playing 14.1 on a back table of a local room with all those guys. I wish we were all the same age... it'd be a helluva retirement ;).

P.S. The more I think about it, this is so silly. I'm probably leaving off 50 names. We all just found out that Tate plays almost exactly SJM's speed, but I haven't seen his name on any of the same lists with SJM. I dunno... I hope this thread doesn't hurt people's feelings, though I have a suspicion it will...

For those that put me on your lists, thank you! That really is a helluva compliment. However, it got me thinking about how many people in my own room are better than me (how I'd rank). I have to say, this might be the first time I've ever tried to visualize my local room's totem pole. Doing it here, on this site just seems impossible. Albeit, I play in a strong room but there may be ten regulars who are better than me which would bump me from a LOCAL top ten list. Among the hundreds of contributors, I'm more than certain this forum can yield a list that would exclude me.

Once again, thank you for having me in your thoughts but if I'm on your list, you've obviously forgotten someone.

I know there are a lot of good players who post here and there are even more who just lurk (you know who you are). Off the top of my head I'd say:

SoDakotaKid (Shane)
Rude Dog (If he could ever get out of Kingman and start playing more we'd all be hearing about him (again))
Steve Lipsky
TheOne
Louie Ulrich
Blackjack
CrownCityCorey
thebighurt
Mark Tadd (though not a regular poster anymore)
satman

I feel like I'm leaving a number of people out. That's just the people's names (nicknames?) that popped into my mind as I was typing this. I know Billy Palmer lurks here because he teases me about posting here so much every time I see him. :D

I like your list and I would substitute you for the weakest player on it.

(I wish I could play every individual named so far by everyone 1 set of 9 ball and 1 set of 1-pocket for $5000, then i could retire).

Is this just an idle musing or are you for real?

BlackJack
SJM
Louis Ulrich
Shane
RudeDog
Jimmy M
Jason Robichaud (sp?)
Black-Balled
Corey Harper
Steve Lipsky

Those are my top ten in no particular order because anyone of them can be the best player... it just depends on the day. I wanted to include TheOne, OHB, Fred Agnir, and a few others, but those named popped into my head first.

Was he ever "regular"???

I am betting that theres at lest 5 -10 really good players not on anyone list that are regulars here.
I would say that "superstar" has to be near the top of the heap.

There are several A players on here and a few AAs not to mention most of the known posting Pros.
Beware of the lurkers.

It would be fun to have an event that most of the members could show up. Not only putting names to faces but seeing how people play and learning different stuff. I went to an RSB gathering once in Atlanta and
had a great time. The level of play was good with Paul Song being there.
Paul is another one that posts here and plays very well. He is definitely
a solid A player.

From what I have seen over the years the talent pool of this board and the other prominent pool forums is pretty deep. There are quite a few people with day jobs who post here that are decent shortstop to semi-pro level and a few who could be contenders if they chose that route.

It would be impossible for me to list a top ten - one thing I know is that I wouldn't be anywhere near it if we were to have a series of tournaments and all the good players played.

John - will take the seven from all the top ten non-pros on AZB :-))

The One,

You started this to see your name being mentioned repeatedly, didn't you?:D :D :D :D

Coming to Vegas this year?;) ;)

I pretty much felt the same way but took a crack at it anyway. Sorry if I offended anyone by excluding them but I just threw out the first 10 names of people that I knew played well that came to mind. Some of the people, while I have no doubt they're good players (like SUPERSTAR), I just have no idea who they are because, if I do know them, it isn't by their nickname on azbilliards.com. :)

Not at all, I'm working again now and play 1 night a week in a local $8 a man comp on crappy tables!

Sadly I certain Australian poster on this board forgot to put my name down for Vegas so my names not down and I will miss Vegas for the first time in 4 years! (Hope we can catch up soon and talk shop ;) )

PS
This list was just a bit of fun based on perception, it would be interesting to see all the names throw a few hundred bucks in to a hat and play for it but I think you'd need a sponsor to chuck another $10k in in order to tempt people to travel. Would be fun though :)
