What's your shot??

Kiss Shot

I play 9 footers instead of bar boxes, but I think I would have tried to double kiss the 6 in the corner. This would also leave you good on the 7.

All the above are extremely low percentage shots! In a real game, we would all be ducking here. Maybe soft bank the six up against the nine and send the cue ball two rails down table to the other end rail. That's real pool, not "try to get lucky" pool.

But he's playing the ghost, Jay!

And also showing off to the internet, because our opinion matters a lot.

But...

Admit it was a harrigan!!

And that the only thing that woulda beeen worse to pull off woulda been a safety!

Geesh, Jay, sorry I was playing the ghost, which obviously is not real pool, and not call shot 10 ball, which is the only real game, besides banks.

Sorry if I offended you Neil. I happen to like your contributions to AZ. I did know you were playing the Ghost. You said that clearly in your first post. I just didn't want some of the newer players on here (and there are a lot of them) to think that this was the best option in a real game. That is why I pointed out that there was another way to go if you were actually playing a real match.

I'm not sure you made it clear how difficult the shot was that you pulled off. It takes an expert to make that shot, even one in five times. Again my apologies for any offense taken.

Thanks Jay. The only time you would want to play that against an opponent would be in a ring game like someone else mentioned.

Again though, the whole point was- never give up on yourself, no matter what the odds are. You just might pull off a game or match winning shot. That's one of the main things that separate Efren from the rest. While he can do it with a fair amount of consistency, and we can't, doesn't mean that we should NEVER try the low percentage shots. Sometimes, it's all you have. In this case, playing an opponent, I totally agree that the shot would be crazy. The safe is staring you right in the face. Shoot that.

As far as the 'expert' comment, thanks, but in my case it is more like 'even a blind squirrel can find a nut some of the time'.

I've always liked that about Efren. I've never seen him come to the table and shake his head or lament the bad roll he's gotten. He ALWAYS comes to the table with one mindset - Make the best shot possible in the situation he's faced with!

I think this attitude comes from all those years playing Rotation, where shots like the one shown here become routine. In Rotation, as you know, you have to be creative and improvise a lot of the time. I've seen all the filipinos come up with amazing shots when necessary. A lot of people don't give them credit for being the most creative pool players on the planet.

My attitude has always been, when faced with a tough shot, - Everything goes if you hit it good enough! Complementing what Neil has said on this thread, any shot can be made if you just give it a chance.
