What's your thing, other than pool?

I like to play a poker tournament occasionally, when the mood strikes me. I also love playing with my little grandkids (they own me). Also spend time working on my home, always fixing or repairing stuff.

And other than that, I'm always working on some Pool related project. Whether it be another tournament, a new TV show, a new poolroom, a book or an article for a magazine. Playing myself and backing players comes last on the list unfortunately.

my other passion is music. i've been a percussionist for 34 years and teach it as well. :)

Interesting thread.

When I'm not doing anything pool related (practicing, tourneys, etc.), I...

...first and foremost, love spending time with my wife. We both work full time jobs (50+ hours a week each) so time together is a commodity.

...enjoy reading books (conspiracy/drama/thriller). I'm really into David Baldacci right now (Split Second and Simple Genius are 2 of my favorites).

...love computers and anything to do with computers. Since my job revolves around computers, I have the opportunity to be in and around a lot of other people with the same interests. But as of right now, I really enjoy (get ready as this sounds really nerdy) studying processor and chipset architectures. There is so much to learn in this area (both for my job and for personal interests).

...love programming and learning new programming languages. Right now, I am attempting to become competent in VHDL.

...am very interested in learning French. As my wife is French, I am trying to learn this most difficult language, but it is tough if you don't use it every day.

My 2 kids.....

Daughter of 3y9m and son of 1y7m. Neither of which can reach a pooltable....yet!

Although I have to say....that with the introduction of them....it's the pool that has become 'the other thing'...as it should be really!

cheers,
Kimmo

Table tennis. USTTA rating of 1618. Pretty avg. Oh and tekken.

Reminded me of a story...

I was deployed to the United Arab Emirates and there was a community activity center there that I played pool at quite a lot. There was always one guy in there playing "Table Tennis" and seemed to play very well. I was one of the head Network Administrators there and one of the main projects we had was transferring the entire base network over from a private IP scheme to a public IP scheme. Which won't make much sense to many of you but I digress... We had to physically go all throughout the base and I ended up in the "Table Tennis" guys office as I had to do something on his computer. He said something to the effect of, "I don't know how you guy's do this stuff with computers", so I said to the guy trying to be cordial, "Well if I needed help with PING-PONG I'm sure I could come to you"...... The guy gives me his best Earl Strickland death stare and says.... "I don't play PING-PONG, I play Table Tennis!"

That day I learned that there is a difference between the two :)

I like to make knives. Used to make fishing poles too but it was cutting into my pool playing time. =o]

Coop.. that Nunchukka video clip is sick.
I used to be into that too, in high school. Unfortunately since then I haven't had any place to set up my tools so I kind of had to stop.

I also used to rock climb, but then I got injured and couldn't for about 6 months while I was healing. Which is basically how I started playing pool.

Now it's just pool. I live in Korea at the moment, all my friends are from the pool hall here, except my GF. So these days I'm either at the pool hall, or leaving the pool hall to go drink with people from the pool hall. Or with my girl.:)

I'd like to say my hobby is learning Korean, but sadly it's not something I spend enough time doing.:(

[Edit]Nice looking knife by the way!

Guitar and golf since I was pretty little.

Handguns shortly there after and Paintball right after that.

Sportbikes and Cars everywhere else. :)

i"m into cars.. mostly rear wheel drive japanese imports. I own a pool room and garage combo (it works out pretty good), so I get to enjoy my two favorite things all the time but it gets old working for yourself, I much more rather work for someone and enjoy these things without all the worry of how to pay for it.. of course I love my fiancee and baby to be much more then any of that, but I consider them to always be first..

Other than pool... there are other activities besides pool? ;)

Skiing, although I tend to be playing more pool as I get older. It seems that cold just keeps feeling colder. :)

Him too....his name is Bullet.:D

Damn Kevin, he's getting big! Last time I saw a pic of him his head was bigger than his body! :D

I am surprised no one has mentioned it (if they did I missed it - sorry), but I like to ride my Harley.

I also like baseball, reading, and traveling. Though since I got married, the traveling has ceased. LOL.

i guess my other interests would be:

high school basketball
cigars
strat-o-matic baseball
girls
watching my old tv shows in the winter (The Invaders, Charlies Angels, Mannix)
Cuetec Cues, of course!

I don't know what got me thinking about this...but here it is: Other than pool, what's your favorite hobby/obsession/pasttime/sport?

Golf? Hunt? Play the guitar? Poker?

I know that some may say this is NPR, but in a way, it is pool related. I'm trying to figure out what type of person gets really into pool.

I'll start out....

I play the drums.

I'd have set this up like a poll, but there are way too many possible options.
Well, since you asked..I am a born again Christian and Church is my second home. I do drama and go from Church to Church.I have a web site for local pool players that keeps me busy..piranhabilliards.com
and being retired its hard to get a day off.lol LES
