What's your thing, other than pool?

I collect custom tactical style knives... not the fantasy stuff... the nice stuff.

Jake,
I use to trap a lot of beaver myself. I find that nowadays Cougars are most easily trapped.

Far from it, that blower is real! :D

I've got some more updated pics somewhere, we've almost got the car finished. Just needs body work done and to be painted.

I really enjoy building awesome gaming computers, but now that I'm on a budget (married) it's a lot harder. I play soccer, mess around with ASP.NET/XML/VB.NET/SQL05 and I'm learning Ruby on Rails, and recently started going to the range and trying out the different handguns. I think I'm going to get myself a browning hi-power or another 1911-esque handgun. I like listening to jazz when I play pool too... but I'm mostly a punk rock or old rock kind of guy when not playing.

Wow. I really appreciate all of the responses.

I only listed one other hobby in my original post, and am feeling kind of dull and two dimensional (pool and drums). I'd like to add a few things:

Playing with my four year old (boy/girl) twins. Listening to classic rock and jazz. Scuba diving. Reading mysteries (Dennis Lehane, Michael Connelly, Robert Crais, Lee Child, to name a few). Fighting crime (I'm a prosecutor). Fantasy baseball and football. Following the Red Sox and Patriots.

Mountain Biking. I'm out there 4 or 5 times a week.

I also SCUBA dive but, with nothing but dirty ass lakes in Arizona, I only get to go when we go on vacation.

I don't know what got me thinking about this...but here it is: Other than pool, what's your favorite hobby/obsession/pasttime/sport?

Golf? Hunt? Play the guitar? Poker?

I know that some may say this is NPR, but in a way, it is pool related. I'm trying to figure out what type of person gets really into pool.

I'll start out....

I play the drums.

I'd have set this up like a poll, but there are way too many possible options.

Jack of all trades, sorta

I've always been sort of a dabbler until pool came along. Things that have been my "I must become good at this activity immediately but I'll probably quit once I'm better at it than most people who don't pursue it seriously" activity in the past:

Juggling (only got good at 3 objects, but those 3 did include torches and knives)
Guitar (acoustic, fingerstyle)
Percussion, Symphonic/Marching(snare)/Jazz(vibes) - I was damn good for high school, then never kept at it
Singing (collegiate a capella group, Bass II, classical training but not much classical performance experience, Bass-Baritone)
Vocal arrangement (was musical director of said singing group for 2 years)
Poker (Hold-'em, just a bit better at it than those who don't really play)
Tennis (pretty good ground-strokes and net game, no control over my serve whatsoever)
Soccer (I was okay for a 12-year-old, but sat the bench in high school)
Basketball (at 6'2" and broad-framed and athletic, I was a useful asset in a pick-up game, but couldn't handle the ball or shoot well unless it's a lay-up)
Weight-lifting (I'm pretty strong, and kinda muscular, but not really strong, and I don't have the eating habits in place to be what might be called chiseled)

There are probably others. I really like learning how to do things, but usually lose interest before getting to an elite level.

I think you and sjm should get together sometime and combine hobbies....you guys can shoot machine guns with sjm's classical music playing in your headphones....I get a tear in my eye just thinking about the beauty of that scene..............^_^
Kinda like the beach scene in platoon, I like it!

Let's see. My things other than pool would have to be:

1) Sex. (usually alone. In the dark. In front of a computer.)

2) Stalking. (usually alone. In the dark. Outside the windows of a few women I know)

3) Making fun of others to hide the scores of insecurities that lay deep within the recesses of my mind (usually done in online forums and chat rooms)

4) Correcting people for typogarphical errors (if you don't see the irony in that, please don't respond - just shoot yourself.)

5) But most of all, I like to take long walks on the beach and read poetry. To talk about my feelings. My desires. My fears. I'm a libra, approx. 6'1" and 220lbs., and I guess I'm just looking for someone who likes these things as much as I do. If its you, feel free to PM me.

...wait. This is match.com. Right?

Before I got so addicted to pool I used to play a lot of video games (XBox 360 not WoW). I like to write novels and sometimes scripts and poetry. I draw and do other artistic things. and very rarely will I pick up my guitar and play a little. Used to skateboard too but I got in some trouble when I was in the service and took a break and lost it all. I know how to push and ride still so I guess its not ALL gone.
