When age bites

I was working in Albuquerque in the mid-90s and got to see Jimmy Moore in his final years, slowed up a lot, had to hold on to the table to move to his next shot, but then, he would get down and his right arm would be like a teenager. Smooth as ball bearings in an oil bath.
I played with a few people that had bad case of arm/hand shakes... Parkinsons. They would shake a bit...suddenly stop/pause and shoot..and scored. They struggled but stayed in the game. I watched a few handicap (wheelchair) players at SBE in the early years... they played very well regardless of what was going on personally.
I cannot complain and not complaining...I have no right to.... Just having a few friendly conversations here. We age. We change. I was never good enough to complain. Going bald is one thing....but that does not effect performance. In spite of everything to come my way...I always was and always will be the best in house and in my mind.🤣

When Age Bites

Playing pool but….. At the stage of life when arthritis is killing the body. Eyesight is not great. Concentration and endurance are not there. Struggling to play like I use to but it’s not happening. Shots are wayyy off. I’m wondering if I should:
Simply quit and get rid of the table & cues
Try to enjoy what’s left regardless
Get the breaks and few balls(1P)
Go to Ask The Instructor
Go to my room
Start drinking and smoking
Join a senior center or old age home league.
Play left handed so I’ll have a better excuse.
Just kidding butt, my theory at the age of 69+3.5 is quit sniveling and solve the problem. My solution is have fun with the hobby. If it isn't fun ....sell the equipment and take up sex. That comes from my Grandmother telling me that she was giving up bowling and taking ⤴ sex, as "the balls are smaller and I don't have to change my shoes."

oh pah-leeeeeeese!
This thread makes me feel like I am back at the Bar watchin' all the girls flipping their hair to get attention. ☺️☺️
I'm 62, Diabetic and have chronic Arthritis. There are days I practically curse my knees and back. Lately my shoulders have been "achy" and I don't know why.
We play the game because we LOVE the game.
Skill level, leagues, tournaments, aside, we all wait for that one Fantastic shot that makes us feel like "Fast Eddy."
One good day is worth 6 rotten days in my book. Like "Steve Miller" says in his song: "Keep on a-rockin' me baby"
Now get back to the table GC 😉

Back when I was in my late teens in the late 1970s I used to shoot a lot at a community center run by the school system in Madison, WI. There was an old guy named Bill Habberman (sp?) that would come in a couple times a week. He was in his 70s and nearly blind so he mostly came in just to socialize and give pointers to some of us younger players. His game of choice was 3 cushion, and although I wasn't much interested in it at that time I liked him so I would play him a game to 10 or 12 whenever he asked. I wasn't much good and he could barely see so most of those games took a couple of hours. However, every once in a while he would manage a run of 3 or 4 and his face would light up for the rest of the day. Seeing how good it made him feel made my day, too. His abilities had far, far diminished, but he remained in love with the game and enjoyed it until the end. :)

Agreed, but what if you haven’t experienced that one good day in your last 100+ days?

#1. I'm bald(ing)
#2. This is the official Over 75 Bitch & Moan, Cry the Blues Fan Club. OK...in the process of getting back on track.

I'm re-evaluating, building a new beginning. I'm staying around like a bad habit.
Anyone that feels like crap is welcome to chime in. It's free. It's a brother hood. Sound off. The Beef Box is open. Something like ... I feel crap but love my Schon. Or my body aches, my pool stinks..but I have great new 4x8

Finish having fun…. Fun to me lately is making a hanger and running 2 balls.
:ROFLMAO:

As for learning anything new…. Been there .. it’s trying to remember what I just learned. Maybe I’ll regress and go back to being a clubhouse banger and give advice
Here's a suggestion: make a cheat sheet, laminate it, and hang it upside down around your neck. As needed, flip the cheat sheet up to read it. To be able to read the cheat sheet, you will probably need to hang some reading glasses around your neck as well. Add a thick gold chain, and voila!, you will feel like a young stick master again.

We had a stuffed lamb toy. Just palm size. When you tipped it it gave out the perfect Wahhh wahhh. We made it a rotating tropy.
I played on a team that had an insult hurling bobble-head. Was some old guy ,and you really had to listen to hear him. I Mulligan'd the ball b-4 the 8-ball in one of my matches and the guys were swatting each other's hands trying to be first to tap his head and make it sound off. Their fighting over who got to tap it was too funny!

Oh yeah and forgot to mention. Diabetes. After a good lunch my head is ready to go into the soup. Can fall asleep standing up.
I know the feeling. I have been struggling with it for 4 years now, and it has had an influence on my play.

Yes..that's what I'm talking about. That's the Bite Factor. Eat too much no good, Don't eat enough no good. Need a fricken water fountain on location. Damn... I wonder what 100 is going to be like. Not sure if I want to make to 100. Ask me when I'm 99
