When did Moori tips change?

I've read quite a bit on AZB about how the old Moori's were a great tip and they went down hill when something changed (mass produced or whatever) and now the new Moori's aren't as good. While I'm curious to know if this is just a theory/myth or if it is real and someone knows what actually changed, what I'd really like to know is (real or not) about when did this perceived change occur? Was it a couple of years ago, 5 years ago, etc.?

It's been talked about since I've been on this forum but that's only been a couple of years. Anyone have a year that this was first talked about or noticed?

I noticed inconsistency with Moori mediums approx 3-4 years ago and after some inquiries, I learned that not only did Moori change up what they were putting out but, also, that counterfeits were starting to enter the marketplace.

I sure enjoyed playing with them while they were high quality (genuine/original).

I've been using Med. Moori now for 10 years....The last 2 years I had 2 bad ones. I just had one put on the other day and it is hard as Phenolic...Every hit it pings and clicks and won't hold chalk very well....I'm taking it in tomorrow to have it changed....So that's 3 now...

I don't know what to do next...Thinking about going back to Triangle....

I have a new cue coming tomorrow and the cue maker uses Everest tips. So I'll try that and see how that is....But I do see a change in Moori's...
 
The change ocurred a few years ago when they began to bubble pack the tips. The tips got harder and this is not "perceived", it's a fact. If you liked the old medium as I did, go to a soft. They are roughly equivalent to the previous medium and still the best tip for me that I know of. I'm also using the Tiger Onyx, and to my amazement I like the feel and the way it holds chalk. A true medium tip.

Thanks guys, rep to you all for the helpful info.

So anyway, I got a couple Moori's from around 2002-03. They were not bubble-packed or individually packed but rather came bulk in a round tin labeled simply:

H. Moori
Medium 14
Made in Japan

So I guess I've got a couple of the old ones then, right?
