John, I vaguely remember a friend of mine who told me that when you were one of the top unknown money players in the USA, that you would practice 14.1 at home before you went out to gamble. I heard that you wouldn't leave your place to go get action, until you had run 100 balls. He told me that this was pretty much on a daily basis. Is that true?

well no

not true.i ran 100 or more whenever i did play 14.1. but that was only when i was on a table that played great for big runs which was rare.
also i was usually playing someone for money and could not show my speed practicing in front of them.

John-

I'm curious at what point you started playing world-class 14.1. Was it when you started with Bobby Hunter? Also, how was your 9-ball game when you started the insanely high runs in 14.1? Were you playing pro-speed 9-ball at that point?

Also, did you get more action playing 9-ball or 14.1? I'm guessing the answer is 9-ball since that seems to be the game of the past couple decades; any good 14.1 gambling stories?

About 5-6years ago, John came through S Florida and called hmself JJ. Some days, Bobby Hunter was with him.

He beat everyone around and allegedly ran a 247 and then just stopped practicing one day in Grovers in West Palm. He used to torture Paul Lordi, and he was playing well at the time. Bob Ogburn and Melrose were a couple of other victims IIRC

At one point John said, "ill play anyone you can bring in here for $5k". Somone said "Well we will get Buddy Hall" John said "Go get him." It was probably then that everyone realized he was National Speed.

I remember a good ten years ago, John used to hang out in the room that i play in Leisure Time Billiards in NY. well john gave me the 5-Out race to 9, and drilled me 9-0. Johny Strung 9 racks against me, i didnt bother to play him a second set. i couldn't see paying someone to be there rack boy, but maybe i should have to be witness of something incredible.

johny is is world class player and i wish him nothing but the best, even though he does get a little cocky when he is stringing that many. but like they say, If you got it flaunt it........

John - I saw you play Marcus C. at Hardtimes probably 8-10 years ago. I was with Laura Friedman, and she knew who you were. You were there with a handful of buddies, and you were getting weight (maybe getting the 8-ball playing 10 ball?). Anyway I think you won a couple sets.

Where, in your development, would you say this was?
