Say your playing 8 ball, you shoot and the object ball comes off the table and the cue stays on the table. I know the object ball gets spoted, but, is it a foul, ball in hand or do you just continue shooting? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

No foul, object ball gets spotted and it's the other player's shot.

OBJECT BALLS JUMPED OFF THE TABLE
If any object ball is jumped off the table, it is a foul and loss of turn, unless it is the 8-ball, which is a loss of game. Any jumped object balls are not re-spotted.

I think these rules make the most sense. Why should I as a player be penalized for the mistake of my opponent? the reason why I say this is because lets say the 8 ball or one of my balls happens to be right next to the head spot? by spotting your ball in that spot you just gave a ball in hand but also made my run out a little harder..

Charlie & Jimmy, thank you. that's exactly what I was looking for. So, the ball gets pocketed and person gets ball in hand, right?

Thats right. The person who didnt shoot the ball off the table gets ball in hand. Thats how we do it here in Houston.

In TAP if the object ball is the shooter's it is spotted, if the opponents it goes down.

This came up at our National Qualifying tourny this past weekend.

BIH in both situations.
