When Will Matchroom's MC points be clear?

There have already been four tournaments that had the MC points attached to them...#5 tournament for MC points (Allen Hopkin's Expo) is right around the corner. This makes zero sense NOT having how many point a player gets for what. This should have been public before the first points tournament started...a month before. Am I the only one feeling it's not right? Johnnyt

They want to have control over who gets selected... They'll post how they score them as soon as they can be assured of having control over who gets selected.

I hope your wrong, but matchroom has been jerking the American players and fan around for years now when it comes to the MC. Johnnyt

I would think since the cup is named after an American legendary player, the AMERICAN side would have more control of how things happen! Sounds kinda backwards to me IMO

While you're clearly a good 'merican, you ignore the small fact that Matchroom isn't an American company and they're the ones putting this little shindig together. You must always obey the golden rule: He who has the gold, rules.

I wouldn't worry too much. If the US team doesn't pick up their end, I wouldn't be surprised to see a Euro vs. SE Asia Mosconi Cup in the future.

I have heard this theory before and Mike Howerton and I talked about it last night on ABR. The theory makes no sense because Matchroom can do whatever they want with team selection and if they wanted to control it they could and not do point at all.

Then what's all the smoke and mirrors on the U.S. side of this points/events issue all about ???

I'm not sure I would call it "Smoke and mirrors" and I hate to say this about the greatest sports promoters in the world but it's possibly a plan or concept they are trying that has been a little F'ed up and not gone as planned. It's hard to believe as Matchroom are the gold standard but I find it easier to believe than they are fixing the system.

Matchroom isn't to blame, the state of American pro pool is to blame. If there was a legit national pro pool tour, or even a handful of reliable tournaments, I'm sure they would use it. As it stands, why announce points for tournaments that may or may not even happen, or whose promoter may run off with the money?

The state of American Pool isn't so bad that they couldn't have used tournaments played on 9 footers as points events.
Yes, it is. If they limited themselves to 9-footers, they'd have a grand total of one major - that the consensus here is that it should be boycotted - and a couple of regional tourneys.

Agreed, but it's not about the quality of play...it's about the gold. I suspect viewership for a Euro vs. Pacific/Asia would be 10 times the current viewership. At this rate it's just a matter of time.

ESPN (and other networks) are hungry for international audiences. Euro vs. Pacific/Asia Mosconi Cup could get pool back on TV...just not in the states.

I agree and when I posted, I was actually thinking how performance translates into viewership. Matchroom wants/needs two teams that will go the distance, not have an imbalance that results in one team getting knocked out with a day left to go.

like most marketing, it's not about actuality..

It's not about actuality, it's about perception. Just like with bar boxes versus big table. Do lesser players have a chance at winning a bar box event more so than a big table event, not really, although it's easier for them to win individual matches, but the PERCEPTION is that they can.

It's the same thing here. Announce that it's points based and the perception that the players have more control is out there, but hold on to the details and manipulate it the way you want and the actuality is that you have total control.

It's about making people that complain happy by creating the perception that there is player control.

I have a feeling that Matchroom being England-based, thinks that 7ft barbox are like their English 8ball/blackball 7ft tables :D
Of cos those English 8ball tables with smaller 2" balls make those 7 ft table equivalent of 8ft or 9ft :D
